WIW to Friend's book launch: Vintage Marimekko Dress 2

Today I had a book launch to attend. I'd planned to wear something silk...and then, just as I was about to leave, it started to pour—and I was walking. So I changed—and carried a navy umbrella.

Dress: Marimekko, late 80s, altered
Beads: YUCK - what was I thinking? (They are silk-covered and thrifted).
Platforms: Naturalizer, couple of years ago.
Bag: Winners

It wasn't quite the look I was after for this kind of event, but I will say this, it was extremely comfortable in the hot-then-cold and crowded room.

I think you look lovely, Suz! I certainly wouldn't call the beads yuck - but they do get lost a little bit against the print of the dress.

Mmm! That's a pretty pattern! I'd swap out the dark beads for maybe something lighter; maybe a white belt?

Your fabulous altered dress
The only remark I would make is if you had some camel sandals, it would play better with the feeling of the print IMHO.
And you could totally wear some funkier necklace.

The altering turned out very well and the dress fits you beautifully!

I agree about changing out the blue necklace for something lighter, or a pendant.

Also, for a different effect, can this dress handle a belt? That would give you lots of options - light, metallic, bright color, etc. -- for variety.

Wow - you look so pretty! Did you try a nude shoe to see how that looked? Also, those beads get a little lost in the pattern of the dress. How about a longer necklace with something fab hanging off the end of it? Thanks for posting!

Wow you look great. I love that dress. It looks like something you could mix up with many accessories and colors.
The necklace does get lost but that's not anything terrible like say a clashing accessory would be. I don't think I'd wear a necklace at all but it certainly didn't detract from the whole picture.
You're so pretty and I love your smile.

Thanks for all comments and advice! The pattern is like a batik, Angie, and the fabric is super-beautiful cotton-linen that breathes so well, which is probably the main reason I save it all these years, even though it didn't fit.

I don't own nude or camel shoes, or a long pendant, so those can be on my wish list now! (My closet is very minimal now after weight loss and years of not spending money on myself.)
