WIW This Week...Two Out of Three Ain't Bad

Two good outfits, one not-so-great, but I'll get to that in a minute. Have you ever read the children's book "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day?" Well, a line from the book that I repeat often is "Some days are like that." And oh, today was one of those days.

Here's why:
1. Dropped the electric toothbrush this morning (with it running), looked down at my clothing and said "Oh good, I didn't get any on me." Got to work and realized I had gotten it all over my red skirt. OK well not ALL OVER, but enough spots to get me really ticked off.
2. Attempted to remove aforementioned stains from red skirt using a Tide Stain Stick, only to realize that aforementioned stain stick was empty
3. Did you know that whitening toothpaste has a bleach-like substance in it and is really hard, if not impossible, to remove from a red skirt?
4. Had a meeting this morning at which I sounded reasonably intelligent, after which I went into the ladies room to discover that my head of hair had been replaced with Einstein's head of hair. Oh well, maybe that added to the "sounded reasonably intelligent" thing.

So this is what I wore this week, minus two repeats that I didn't photo:
1. Several people thought I was really dressed up in this, to which I replied, "What? This is dressed down. There's no way you can be dressed up in a flannel shirt!" I think the statement necklace gets lost with the shirt, next time I'll wear pearls, that would be fun. Also, next time I'll try my leopard print pumps - extra fun!

2. I am trying to wear less black, but I had a funeral to go to after work for a dear friend's mother.
Black tee (with decorative trim at the neckline) - The Loft, faux leather lapel draped jacket - Macy's, animal print skirt - JCP, black pumps - Naturalizer

3. Here's the one, the "not-so-great" outfit. I actually got several compliments, but looking at the pic, I'm not crazy about that poncho anymore. It's only two or three seasons old, but I think it needs to be updated. What do you think? Current or outdated?

I don't think 3 looks bad but it's not as fab as 1 or 2-those looks are really a cut above. So sorry about your bad day and ruined skirt! But isn't it nice to have YLF to vent? We even have friends here to remind us that these types of days happen even in Australia. Hugs!

I don't know who is cuter - you in #1 or Cosmo Edward in his Halloween costume. It's a tie. Mama and Pup are a stylish couple.

You will probably like the poncho more over jeans. Try it that way before you decide to pass it on.

Re your bad day... I say that some days should come with a warning. But you look fab in the first two outfits! I love your flannel shirt with the red pencil skirt. I'd like to see it with pearls; you're right that they would show up better. And I'm admiring and studying your wonderful funeral outfit. It is so very appropriate and also so very on trend.

Are you going to try the poncho with jeans? I bet it will look great, as Angie brilliantly suggested.

Oh, and your dog is SO cute! Happy Halloween!

Oh, I've been quoting that book like crazy ever since I got sick. I have a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad virus.

But what a pity about your red skirt -- I hope it can be saved, since that outfit is just out of this world on you. Wow!!!

Jackiec, I do have black booties, and I hope to add a pair of silver ones to my collection soon. Silver might look good, don't you think?

Windchime and Angie, I have worn this with jeans, and yes, it does look better. I have worn it with both skinny and regular jeans, I'll try it with my BFs too.

Yes, Meredith, it is nice to have YLF to vent! The skirt is hanging on the line drying now, we'll see what happens...

#1 blew me away! I actually love the tonal necklace over the shirt.

2 is appropriate and comfy for your day too.

I agree with Angie that the poncho might look better over skinny jeans. It does have potential

Thanks Neel! That shirt is a mixed plaid and the necklace shows up better on the side that isn't as red, and it shows up better IRL.

I think skinny jeans are the answer for that poncho. And perhaps my VC tubes would work too. I'll have to look back in my archives of photos and see if I've ever worn it with that.

We all have days like that. If you can maintain the sense of humor, you win. I have a tendency to wander around and check my blackberry while brushing so have fairly frequent toothpaste accidents. A microfiber cloth is the perfect solution. I have never found anything that removes the toothpaste residue as well.

Love the alternating panels on the plaid shirt and it looks fab with the skirt and nude shoes. Great outfit. I can see it with a chunky metallic necklace too.

#2 is really nice too but I wonder how it would look with a shorter top or tucked top to create similar proportions to those in #1.

I think proportion is the issue in #3. The width of the top needs the longer bottom to even it out. I do like it though and think it works.

Cosmo's facial expression is conveying bad words to me. LOL I don't think the poor boy is happy with his costume.

Dianthus, you are very perceptive! Cosmo Edward did not care for his costume. He felt much better about it after I gave him some treats for being a good boy

Also interesting is what you said about proportions. I originally tried #2 with a longer top but didn't like it - due to the proportions - so I put on this shorter tee. I will try tucking the tee next time. And the length of jeans and narrowness of a tube skirt should help #3 too.

Love your term 'Einstein hair' and understand completely! LOL! #1 and #2 are great work putfits, and I wouldn't give up on the poncho. Looks like the perfect item of cozy clothing for a colder day.

LOL! Your story made me laugh. At least you didn't have anything stuck in your teeth! I love that shade of red on you, and I agree, the poncho paired with skinny jeans would be killer. I love Autumn and all of the fun things to wear.
