WIW: the outfit's not that interesting

but I need to wake myself up by making an attempt and officializing it with a WIW. The smile is labored because I didn't get a good night's sleep (not to worry--just having sleep issues these days). Also a slight attempt at a texture/shine/color thing. I'm missing pattern. ETA: the necklaces are now obscured by a scarf so no shine but pattern and more texture. It's a slight improvement, and for today, I'll take it.

I really love the jacket. I have done this combo before -- funny how that not so great feeling will seep into your clothes. These colors are friends and play a little too nicely together no pop. I however appreciate the effort! Soldier on

You look great in that eggplant/ plum/ mulberry - whatever it is colour, Mochi! And what a pretty necklace!

And yeah...I hear you about having to make the effort. I am forcing myself to do the same, otherwise it is sweat pants for the whole day, and that's no way to live.

Ha, we crossposted--unless the pattern is hard to see. Yep, on checking, it is all muted colors and hard to make out in that pic.

The soft colour palette is wonderful Mochi. Your hair (which looks gorgeous styled this way) also adds texture to your look.

Love the grey and plum. You are right, great texture going on. i"m loving all the casual outfit posts these days. This one is no exception. I'd wear this in a heart beat

I love this coat! I have to take a cue from you and try to stray away from dark colors. Why go dark in the winter? Love the plum, it looks happy and great on you.

You know, I don't mind a muted color palette outfit at all! I know bright outfits photograph better so they usually get more love online, but this purple jacket is really nice on you.

My outfit is simple today too (about to post a WIW), so it must be that kind of day.

Not saying that this outfit is a great example, but a low-contrast outfit can do a really good job of highlighting interesting textures, without the distraction of color. I'm aspiring to some of that.

Mochi, this is a perfectly fine outfit and I love this color on you.

I will say that one of the reasons I am so into "statement essentials" is that I don't have to worry about building in the interest factor. I just don't have that skill set. My hope is to be able to put on ANY item and have it be intrinsically interesting in some way. I think because I'm also team minimal this is okay because there are only one or two items making a statement.

Thanks, kiwi. That's not babbling, Una. I've long been intending to write a verbose post on completely different approaches to dressing as embodied by Angie and Maitai (and Giovanna for that matter). Clothing as statement as opposed to canvas for accessories. I' am not close to mastering either approach (but am good at expounding on them).

Mochi, that would be a brilliant post: "Clothing as statement vs. clothing as canvas". That distills down a huge distinction in my mind. I'm terrible with creativity and accessories, so clothing as canvas just doesn't suit me as well. Hope you get around to it soon, or I might have to post it in your name!

Yes, you are a great appreciator (and creator!) of theory posts (as opposed to Theory--that too, haha). I'm being silly, but now I will definitely have to write it. I will include visuals too. Too bad I can't do it in powerpoint.
