Mo-- I think part of it is that casual looks often have to be artfully done to look as great as a easy to pull off polished business or classic look. Artful casual is a whole 'nother level that not everyone on the forums has down--- sometimes we don't know quite what to suggest for tweaks, and it is harder to get a fab or killer outfit the first time around. Plus, we've got to remember that just because we still have snow and cold, many of the other ladies have moved on to spring and even hot weather.
I like everything but the sweater. There is a great tone on tone thing going on with the layered greens, the white boots are cool, but with the sweater it is too much. The sweater is dated and when combined with the boots it dates the whole look and goes too ski bunny . . . . and believe me, I understand, I live within 30 miles of two major ski areas.
A jacket or "newer-look" sweater in a neutral shade with a cream scarf would be a great way to update this and still bookend the boots.
If I were you, I'd look at back issues of Instyle when they have covered Sundance film festival or try to find some of the looks stars have worn to recent festivals online. Some are overly sloppy/boho or go to "hip hop ski bunny" but I generally think they have great ideas for casual, cold-weather mountain town pairings that use items you probably already own like various furry boots, docs, skinny jeans and pants, and layered tops. Sometimes celeb winter plane/travel looks can be good inspiration too.
