WIW: Taupe Leather & Cowboy Boots

Today’s my last working day until January 3rd (whoo hoo!!!) and we are doing casual in the office. I’m wearing my taupe leather drapey jacket I bought at Gap. I love the softness of the leather and the asymmetrical draping at the front. It’s got a slightly “sloppy” feel to it which I love, although it can be difficult to style. I’ve layered the jacket over a royal purple tank and long & lean jeans (which makes me laugh – I am neither “long” nor “lean”!). Anchoring the outfit are my trusty and ever-so-comfortable cowboy boots. Because of the length of the necklace, I am not tucking in the tank – too much “competition” at the waist if I tucked.

This is my last WIW post until the new year as I don’t plan on taking any photos while I’m off (plus I won’t have my lovely Kristin at home with me – lol!). I guess I really should try and figure out the timer on my camera at home…maybe in 2012!

I want to wish everyone at YLF a wonderful holiday season and the very best in 2012.

That does it. Taupe is offically a *cool* neutral in my book. It looks smashing on you! This outfit seems very modern to me, the cut of the jacket, the tassel necklace, the Long and Leans with boots....it REALLY suits you Shannon! Shannon, the Gap needs to slap this pic up on a billboard ASAP! I can't believe the jacket, tank and jeans all came from there. I never seem to be drawn in by their advertising, but BOY HOWDY I suddenly have to slap my hands to keep from buying a taupe leather jacket.

I especially like the mixed metal hardware. The silver on your bag picks up the taupe color of the jacket, and the boots do the same for your necklace. VERY pretty use of neutrals.

Di - I can't help smiling. I'm a generally very happy person and Kristin is always cracking some sort of comment when she takes my picture - this morning's was "work it honey...work it"(lol)

Claire - yes, this look is fairly modern in comparison with my retro outfits. I do really enjoy both looks and can see myself fluctuating back and forth. I think I'm the type of person who doesn't want to box myself into just one style anyway. I figure that way, I won't get bored.

Andrea - the leather on this jacket is like "butter"! So incredibly soft. I stalked this jacket on Gap online for months before buying. It had started at $328 (way over my limit) but I kept checking back, checking back and finally bit the bullet and bought it when it went down to $139 - I didn't want to wait any longer in case they ran out of my size.

Rae - I've had a lot of luck with Gap over the years. I love their jeans - just bought the new skinny bootcut they have (at the tailor's being shortened) which are a richer blue than these LL's. I also recently got the charcoal/lurex zipper sweater there that I'm really pleased with. And the boucle knit dress I wore with the white jacket this week is from there. Hmmm....maybe I should be getting some sort of "frequent buyer" discount!

You look like SO much fun in this pic. Rae's right; you could be a GAP ad, and would sell the clothes a lot faster than some of their models. This is real life beauty!

Also, in the new year, let's start a thread about combining a retro with a modern style. This is something that I am aiming for, too, although I don't really know what to call it. I like the retro bits but within a mostly modern look. Combining these is the trick. We should collaborate on some ideas!

Thanks Suz for the holidays wishes! And I would love to collaborate on some retro/modern ideas - I know this is what I want to do with my wardrobe but still struggle on how exactly to achieve the look. We will have to brainstorm!
