When my boss has meetings, I try to go a bit more conservative, on the off chance that a client gets a look at me. Today, therefore, I've gone for Urban Warrior Preppy instead of my spring persona of Sgt. Rae (Steampunk Girly Tomboy). Classic (high waisted for me) trousers, button front, and cardigan with a rugged belt, distressed tan booties, conversational print bag, and whimsical kitty necklace. Bookish and buttoned up with an adventurous side beneath the surface -- nerd: subverted.

Cute! You look classic and buttoned up, but Indiana Jones lurks just beneath the surface with the bag, boots, belt and cougar necklace! The clients need never know.

Can I tell you all how long I had been avoiding cream? It's ridiculous. It goes back to elementary school! This is why I keep going on about my camera being my most precious style tool: until I take a picture, I'm just working off of theory. I thought that the slightly yellower tones of a cream item would make my brown skin look... browner?

And of course the inspiration to try it at all: everyone here on the forum. It's been sucha huge help to see others who can wear the same colors I do - when I see certain members in a new color, I know it's worth trying myself, too.

Rae, when you said you can wear lime, I decided to wear ir too. Before that, I felt it would be too bright and ghastly against my brown skin. YLF really does help us change our silly little perceptions! Cream actually makes my skintone look glowy. It does the same on you!

Rae, this is great! I've been having to wear some more conservative looks too - I love the idea of the subverted or hidden side still being there. If I knew I had a cougar necklace tucked away, I'd have a lot more attitude!

You do look wonderful in cream. I don't wear it either, but I honestly do look terrible in it.

Una, subverted conservative is as close as I can get without feeling that I'm in costume. Whatever gets you through the day, right? I am making a mental note to share edgy jewelry here when I come across it.

Rachy, Angie dubbed me Sgt. Rae in this thread - but I'm sure you will also see her tomorrow. She has been quiet all day and is itching to break free.
