Today I wanted to play around with the idea of businessy separates in a somewhat subversive, lab-appropriate (read: not businessy at all) way. So I started with the idea of grey blazer + black trousers + oxfords, but I chose to use my slouchy, waist-tie trousers and my shiny blue patent oxfords (they are blue! even though they are impossible to photograph as such). I also used a white tee in place of a more traditional blouse or shirt to casualize the ensemble a bit. What do you think? Keep in mind that my activities today include lab (environmental norm: casual, but anything goes) and a Boston Pops concert (environmental norm: anything from gear to full suits). Those of you who work in more businessy or office environments: would this look fly in your office?
Although I much, much, much prefer this outfit with the jacket, I've included a photo sans jacket so I can ask about the white tee. This is the first white tee I've owned in at least 5 years, and it is way out of my comfort zone. I have to admit that I feel like I'm wearing an undershirt, and I also feel like it makes me look a bit lumpy in a way that my millions of black tees do not. Do you like the white tee look on me? Or should I stick to colors/black?
I've also included a couple of outfits from earlier this week. The skirt outfit was worn for our one-month anniversary dinner, and was the debut of my new Fluevogs. They are much brighter red than the artificial light photo shows. The outfit with the mustard crops was worn to lab. It amused me that I managed to put multiple types of mustard (Grey Poupon pants and French's shoes) in a single outfit.
