WIW: Sort of polished, and shoe-pinions

Excuse the undone hair. Business lunch today and clients. This is the jacket I just got at Nordstrom - it's from the juniors section but I loved the style and price. I had to size up to a large, though! And I will be wearing my suede boots, not these shoes.

I also caved and ordered these Eject pumps that I posted months ago. They run really big - this is a size 5 and my heel is slipping. Is there a fix for heel slippage or should I send them back? They are the ultimate RATE pump, but I have to be able to wear them!

And in general, how much do you expect of your footwear in terms of what kind of sock and hose you are wearing? Most of my shoes and boots accommodate barefoot, hose, thin or thick socks, but I'm realizing that may be unrealistic.

I think the shoes are a super style but way too big, at least a half size, maybe more, so I'd send them back and try for a smaller pair that you can wear comfortably with tights or barefoot. Shoestores do sell stick-on pads that you can put at the ball of the footbed which keep your foot from sliding forward, and also small silicone strips that go at the back of the heel to grip the foot, but I still think your shoes are just too big for these remedies. You look amazing in the skirt BTW - great legs!!

Adore this outfit, but agree on the shoes, send back for a half size smaller I think. I expect to be able to wear most of my shoes with barefeet or a tight.

I've seen a lot of people using heel grips, but I've not used them myself - I do love the pumps, though! As for socks... it depends on the shoe. Winter boots must fit medium-thick socks and fleece tights. Summer boots must feel snug with thin or athletic socks and have no additional room. Pumps I like to feel right barefoot and with tights, but with no more room than that.

I have been noticing that some of my favorite blazers came from the junior's section... I wonder if there is something to this for small-framed people?

I have narrow feet and often have trouble with slippage. I've tried the heel grips and they just don't work for me...at least when I'm wearing hose. Bare feet are stickier (eww, right?) so shoes don't slip as much when I go without. I'd probably send them back. It looks like you have a lot of extra room at the heel. Can you try a half size smaller?

Had the same problem with these shoes when I tried them months ago (actually after one of your posts)...they are really enormous! Do they come a whole size smaller? I find that the slipping remedy success depends on the vamp of the shoe (or really, where the structure of the shoe can be counted on to compensate for a long length and some sliding), I think the size issue here is too great for an insert unless you're going to load up on the smart-wools, I think they need to be returned. Sorry, they really are terribly cool looking.

Killer jacket and shoes! But I guess the heel gap is a problem. Are your feet sliding forward and your toes hitting the toe box? If that's the case, I'd try an insert for the ball of the foot.

I divide my shoes into heavy sock and stockings/tights categories.

This outfit is great Una - polished and still "YOU"...as for the shoes, way too big I'm afraid. I've used heel grips and they are helpful but I don't think for this much of a size difference.

Before sending them back, try them again at the end of a regular day - your feet may be bigger then and the shoes have to accomodate that !

By the way, what IS that jacket? (She says eagerly...) I, too, am beginning to wonder if the Juniors department might be an unexplored place of fabulous finds...

Those pumps are SO great I can hardly stand it. I want 'em. But I might have a similar problem to yours. My heels are narrow such that I really can't wear pumps at all with hose. I can manage them without hose for the reason Amy mentions. But heel grips have never ever worked for me. I do think you could experiment with sizing down and I also think Rachylou's idea MIGHT work, although again, it has never worked for me for more than a few wearings.

I also divide my shoes into categories. Casual/hiking/snowboots need to fit with a heavier hiking type sock. Fashion boots with a thin sock or tights. Pumps (or in my case, Mary Janes, since the #$*@ pumps won't stay on) need to fit with bare feet, thin hose, and light tights. Occasionally, as a result, I'll go a half size larger for outdoor boots and a half size smaller for sandals. But it depends on the make as well.

I had to size up to a large because of my shoulders, so the sleeves are a little long - otherwise a M would have worked because it doesn't close. It is one of those things I consider a "find" for the style and price. Try it!

As for the shoes, they don't come smaller than a 5! The reviews all complained about the sizing... GRRR. They are otherwise perfect! It is just my heel that is slipping out, the ball of my foot is not moving forward. Almost like a flip-flop.

As for shoes, if it's just slippage, with narrow heels I would suggest a semi-sticky gel insert for the ball of the foot so that the whole foot stays put. But if it's your heel that's popping out I'm not sure what to suggest; I have that problem OFTEN and usually just have to pass on those shoes. For sock/hose accommodations I'm like Rae. Winter boots need to work with thicker, warmer socks (and therefore also work with tights+socks). Warmer weather boots need to work with thin socks or tights. Pumps need to work barefoot or with thin hose. Flats are barefoot only.

I love the outfit as is (substitute other pumps if you have them). It's funny how I'm used to seeing everyone's legs encased in tall boots or pants, but your legs in hose look fantastic! You look great polished and you still look like you!

Awesome jacket. Come to think of it, my jackets that fit really well are juniors' too! They are cotton with stretch and unlined so at least they aren't a gross synthetic. The styling of yours is very sophisticated so no one will be the wiser!

As far as the shoes go. I hate to tell you this, but ALL Eject pumps, no matter what size I get, have so much heel slippage, no matter how many/thick gel inserts I stick into them, and no matter if I'm wearing hose or not - that I have sadly reached the conclusion that I cannot wear Eject pumps. In fact, I can't wear most pumps, no matter the brand, because of the heel slippage. When you mentioned the flip-flopping I just nodded my head in agreement - I sooooooo know that feeling. Also, someone mentioned trying them at the end of the day when your feet have swollen so they are just a little bit bigger. Doesn't work. In fact, for me - the longer I wear them through the day, the worse they get. I can barely walk in them, they flip and flop so much. I remember one time wearing a pump to a wedding and I was part of the family and seated towards the front of the church. Well, the usher escorted me up the center ailse all the way to the front and I literally walked out of my shoes. It was so embarrassing - because I had to turn around go back and slip them on again - and try to make it the rest of the way up before they I walked out of them again! I learned my lesson. If a pump has any slippage at all, I just put it back - nothing is going to make it work for me!

My advice - send them back.

Okay, you all have convinced me to send them back, especially Marley's comment about walking out of her shoes. That's exactly how these feel. I don't get it because I have wide feet and I'm certainly not smaller than a 5! Oh, well. *sniffle*

That is what wearing pumps is like for me, too. It is a RARE, and I mean rare pair that I can manage to keep on my foot, and usually only with bare feet. It's frustrating, because in terms of my legs, they are the most flattering shoe for me. Sigh...
