WIW: Something plum, something French

I just finished my first sort-through of my f/w clothes. Good timing, since the weather has turned to fall here in the mountains!

This is the first outfit I've put together using my f/w capsule. And... I love it!

Plum wool jacket, vintage (handmade in Hong Kong!)

Black tunic, Target
Leggings, H&M

Booties, Target
Belt, J.Crew

I feel like Julia Ormond from the 1990's version of Sabrina in this. This outfit feels very French to me. I think it is due to the structured Chanel-style jacket. I can't believe what a fine piece of suiting it is! It's a heavier gauge wool knit, and yet the structure, tailoring, seaming, and shape is just a thing of beauty. (I'd say it's circa early to mid 1960s.) The funny thing is, I have rarely worn it until I started putting together my capsule. And now I want to wear it all the time!

I wore it with my floppy black felt hat outdoors because it is raining, but am sans hat indoors. Had a haircut this week and my blowout is still good, so I think that makes the look more "polished" as well, instead of my usual riot of curls.

I did lay on some jewelry to add some impact - it felt too plain without it. My only regret is the red belt. I kind of wish I'd gone with cognac, which was my first instinct. But I suppose it still works to a lesser degree.

This is not my more usual bohemian look. What do you all think?

Cute! With the jewelry, hat and curls I think you've still got plenty of boho feel to this (and my hunch is that the boots also lend a boho vibe, even though they're black; can't tell for sure since I can only see the front). May I ask what the fabrication on the leggings is? As long as it's something substantial (like a ponte pant or denim legging) I think you're set there. The red belt looks good to me actually, a little darker and more tonal; cognac would pop a lot more and unmute the moody vibe of the look. You could probably also skip the belt and go with the column of darkness.

From one curly girl to another, I say there's nothing wrong with a riot of curls. That's how I like wearing mine best -- If you can't beat 'em, join 'em ^^ I really like the look with the curls all pulled to the side though, super cute.

I really like this, Keturah! The silhouette and colors look great on you. I think that the long hair and the jewelry still give it your distinctive bohemian touch.

Is there way you can put some light between yourself and the camera--I have the same problem with my picture taking situation--most of the light is behind me which means I photograph dark.

Gorgeous jacket! I hope you do start wearing it all the time, because it deserves lots of wear. I think the belt looks good too, from what I can see.

Sorry to just reply. My family arrived from out-of-state and it was a whirlwind of time. I just couldn't get to a computer.

Aida, gosh thank you! The boots don't show up well, but they are bohemian. They have ankle straps with gold buckles. I wish the leggings were better material. They are H&M and it's just a thin, cheap jersey. I would love something more substantial though. I like your idea to skip the belt. I may do that next time. I rarely get a blow-out and loose curl set, so usually I'm with you -- with curls teased and voluminous all ove rthe place. (My hair is fine and thinner, so I tease a bit for volume, run my fingers through the curls to soften them, and make my hair as big as possible. I feel it looks better with a lot of volume.)

Shevia you're just lovely. I enjoy your blog, particularly because of the hats! I'm a hat girl. I don't wear them 24/7, but I wear them as often as I can. Julia Ormond...I just watched Sabrina again. She's wonderful.

Aubergine, I hope to wear the jacket tons! It's amazing to me, given its age, it still doesn't have a shred of wear, pilling, snags, or anything on it. It must have hung unworn in a closet for years.

I am feeling more and more at peace with myself, my closet, and my daily choices. I can't say I'm terribly edgy or experimental. (What can I say, I love Bohemian clothing!) But YLF has helped me achieve a sense of peace and pure joy with clothes, which has then allowed me to experiment a lot more than I ever did before. Love you ladies, so much <3 xo

This is a very sassy look and I think it's boho in a subtle way with the hat. I would love to see the tunic better somehow!

Wonderful outfit. Wish I had your lovely curls. I've been drooling over that jacket since it first appeared. When you sort out the lighting, would you please reshoot this little vintage gem? I just want to ogle.

cerinda, I bought the jacket at Goodwill some years ago. The label is "Tally Ho" and it's probably from the 1960s. I will reshoot this jacket, just for you <3 It is becoming a treasure item. It's not the most slim-fitting (bit boxy and big on me.) But it is well-cut and well-shaped. I'm anxious for your opinion of it once I can get proper lighting and a better shot! <3

jackiec, having a capsule wardrobe has been a great process for me. thank you <3 I'll pass your compliment on to my stylist I have really curly hair and don't have time or arm endurance (!) to do blow it out myself. So when I get a hair cut, I always ask her to do "Victorias Secret models' hair, please" which involves a blow out, flat iron, curling iron, and lots of product. If it wasn't so hard for me to do, I'd probably wear my hair this way every day.

thimblelina, thank you!! I am falling in love with this jacket a lot more than I thought I would. It's been one of those pieces I've had for about 10 years, but hardly wore, yet I never could seem to discard it in the "Goodwill" pile.

crutcher, lovely feedback <3 Thank you, I am a plum girl. I love lots of other colors. But black and plum are always my go-tow, my fallbacks, and everything in-between that. I shattered my iPhone screen. Now the camera takes distorted photos. So I can't post photos until I replace it. (Hugs and tail wags from Mille to Tobs!)
