WIW: Snake in the winter...

It's freakishly warm and raining here - 47 degrees! All the snow is gone. School was cancelled due to icy roads. But I have to go to work so DS is coming along.

I took the opportunity to wear the Equipment shirt on its own, and the Burberry is coming out to play as well. I love this type of outfit - simple statement pieces like the shirt and boots make me so happy.

Bonus pic of an outfit I wore out to dinner last night with a really cute mesh purse from Target that was only $7!

Looks great! I think that is key -- statement pieces that make you feel great and are easy to wear!

I love outfits like this, one statement piece in a simple outfit. Totally my way to dress. I tried that blouse on in blue and really liked, but I ended up going with a coloured leopard print one instead. I honestly have to force myself to sit on my hands when it comes to new Equipment blouses, but in my defence they are my most worn article of clothing. I cannot resist them.

The shirt in #2 is fab as well, love the leather? detail. Great outfits both!

I will never tire of that equipment shirt on you Una - the colour, shape and design are all just fab on you! Ok...that mesh purse is adorb!

And I think we must have your cold weather - the weekend was just nasty!

I love the turquoise snake print. It is especially badass with the boots. Love it. I love the purse it's such a nice accent to your dinner outfit and $7 is a steal. Enjoy!

I always love that Equipment blouse on you. The new purse is adorable, what a find! And on you it looks like $250 not $7.

Bwah! The red ensign does have a union jack on it, but that isn't our current national flag.

Hey, you're getting a jump on the Year of the Snake, in February. Love, love, love that shirt and, of course, the Burberry, which I was lucky enough to see in person.

What a cute UJ purse and I'm all for high-low items sharing together. There's something very democratic about that, which warms my heart.

Actually your son was not totally incorrect. True, the Maple Leaf flag is our current flag, but both the Red Ensign and the Union Jack have been used as our national flags. Here's a quote from the Canadian Heritage Government website:

"The original Royal Union Flag, or Union Jack, was first raised in Canada at the British settlement in Newfoundland after 1610. Although the Red Ensign was widely used in Canada from the time of Confederation until the national flag was adopted in 1965, the Union Jack was the affirmed national symbol from 1904 and was the flag under which Canadian troops fought during the First World War. The Union Jack maintains its presence in Canada through its incorporation in the provincial flags of Ontario, Manitoba, and British Columbia."

But our UK contingent might point out that strictly speaking your bag is not quite an accurate representation since the white cross bars look to be the same size on either side of the red cross bars. My third-grade teacher back in the late fifties used to make us draw the Union Jack in art classes; anyone who didn't do it EXACTLY right had to stay in at recess... Some injustices never leave us!

Oh, I almost forgot, both of your outfits look fabulous: simple, but strong.

Ooh, I like the quilted top, too! I hear you on simple statement pieces - almost sounds like an oxymoron, but I love how the "simplicity" is in the overall outfit. Fewer pieces, fewer layers, easy peasy.

This is hysterical! Highs of 47 degrees and rainy was exactly what was considered the winter storm of the decade here last week. Everyone was bundles up in boots, coats, scarves and mittens! Anyway, I love both outfits, the wonderful blouse and also the black sweater are both great on you.
