WIW: SGT Rae Battles Insomnia + bonus casual pics

Even after taking my melatonin last night, I only slept about four hours... but I haven't crashed yet, and I got lots done this morning. Called into Ebay about my mobile access not working, sewed a closed a part of this dress that gaped, packaged up some sold items...

For some reason, everything in my closet wanted to be worn at once today - Nexx blouse, paisley skirt, Steampunk boots, red dress... I finally settled on the dress with the boots, since I very recently did NOT fit into this dress and had it in the donate pile. WELL, thank goodness I am lazy with my chores, because it fits again! I love that it has a collar and really dig the double collar effect with a blouse layered under.

Also included is a *very* casual outfit worn out for pizza and grocery shopping with Hubs. These shorts are usually beach shorts, but it was warm and kind of humid last night. It may not be your cup of tea, but I felt fine. I probably won't be able to wear these much longer, so I'm doing it while it's still a gray area in my mind.

Your casual look in #3 is KILLING me Rae! First off, if I had legs like that I'd probably live in shorts! And you have such a cool vibe going here with the neutral layering and that fab map bag - fabulous!

And how lovely that the dress didn't make it out of your home - it looks great on you. Again with the brilliant but not bulky layering. And you know I love that map bag!

That dress is gorgeous on you! Definitely hold off on the donating and put it in rotation as long as possible. And the shorts. I agree with Shannon - I would be wearing those 24/7 if I could rock them like you do. Flats and the layered t's help "de-bombshell" them a bit if you are thinking they reveal too much. Perfect casual.

Double love for the double collar in #1! That's awesome! You look great in the short shorts. Your legs are fabulous and the way you styled this look there is absolutely NO hint of hoochie, so I love. Are the sandals huaraches? I love me a huarache inspired sandal! So beachy!

Love the red dress, Rae. This is classic with a UWP twist! And you rock the shorts. You've de-bomshelled them with your layering on top and the flats. Brava!

Now those are two extremes!! And they both look great. I like the layering with the shorts. I think the loose fit is what makes them work so well. I also love the color of that dress and am glad it fits again and still has a home in your closet.

Claire, a year ago I would *never* have layered a collared shirt under a collared dress - actually, you inspired me when you layered two collared shirts not long ago. And yes, I love me my huaraches!

Kiwichik, I agree, the dress was the one misbehaving, but it has fallen in line.

Beth Ann, I did not think of it that way, but the de-bombshelling does work for the shorts as well as pencil skirt. A little volume here, a lot of coverage there, and the vavoom feels turned way down.

Love both of these Rae! The layering with the dress is lovely, and I really like the cognac accents against the chocolate shirt. And you know I'm a huge fan of your casual summer looks, they're right up my alley (if we had any sun, anyway )!

(Pretty sure you're younger than me and I plan to wear my short shorts a couple years longer. All about how they're styled, and you always do a good job of keeping the top/shoes conservatively balanced.)

I've been fairly absent from the forum and didn't know you got the boots! I'm glad you did, they really suit you. Your work outfit is really sharp. It's office appropriate with many interesting details.

But I love you in short-shorts the most! As I said in Nicole's thread, I have no limit to short-short viewing (and I know that could be construed in a dirty old man/lady way). You allow me to live vicariously through your short-shorts so post away!

Love what Beth Ann said about de-bombshelling the shorts with layering. It's brilliantly done. Such visual interest, too, in the staggered hemlines and cuff lengths. One of my favourites among all I've seen you post.

Inspired layering on the dress too. Love how it is reminiscent of varsity T-shirts with the contrast sleeves on top, but the map bag and long tall boots kick it up a notch!
