WIW: playing with my new camera

Over the holidays, I got two things that will make taking WIWs a lot easier: a wardrobe with full length mirrors on the doors, and a new camera. I'm still trying to get used to the camera and lighting and things like that, so my photos are still pretty bad, but hopefully they're getting better! Unfortunately, I didn't get great photos of any of the following outfits, but I figured I'd post them all together anyway to get back into the habit of posting them.

Outfit 1:
I wanted to wear something bright, so I pulled out my neon yellow sweater and layered my bright blue jacket over it. Unfortunately, I failed to take pictures when it was still light out, so the colors don't really come through in the photos. The jacket is much closer to an electric blue, while the sweater is more neon yellow/chartreuse like.

Outfit 2:
I've noticed that I'm not very good at changing up what bottoms I'm wearing - I'll wear nothing but skirts for a while, and then I'll suddenly swap to shorts, and then pants. Because of this, I haven't been wearing skirts or dresses lately, but I wanted to try to mix it up a bit and break this pattern. This dress has been languishing a bit too since it was waiting to go to the dry cleaners, which I'm terrible about, but I finally took it in and got it back! Unfortunately, I think the bust is too large for me now ... I need to figure out a good way to keep it from gaping. Also, I'm not entirely sure about this jacket (which is kind of hard to see because of the way I'm holding the camera). I think it makes my shoulders look even bigger, and gives me a bit of a football player look. Outfit 3:
I'm not super happy with this outfit. I ended up dithering a lot that day over what I was going to wear, and I finally settled on this one because I'd made myself pretty late for work already. I ended up throwing on a gray tank top underneath after taking these pictures too because I didn't like the sheerness of the shirt.

I'm also still trying to figure out how to take good photos, but these all seem very nice, for what it's worth.

I LOVE the dress in outfit 2. The skirt portion is so much fun! And the teal color in outfit 3 is lovely too.

Great outfits! I especially love the pairing of the chartreuse sweater with the blue jacket and the dress in pic two. Lovin' the shorts over tights. I wish I could wear that, but shorts are a no go for work. I only own one pair. Nice job on the photos. I was going to suggest a tripod, but it looks like I spy one in the background.

Jewell: Yup, I got a tripod and remote as well, but I haven't had the chance to set it up properly and make sure it's framing things well. Hopefully I'll be less busy soon and can start using it ...

Outfit #1 is so cool: I wish we can see the colors better. The leather jacket (is it leather?) is calling my name...
The dress is so funky! You can try to shorten the straps - maybe this will make gaping less obvious?
I hear you on adjusting the outfit #3 after seeing the pictures! You look adorable in those shorts.
About the picture taking: I see you have a tripod: why don't you use it with the timer? It will allow you to take pictures in any place of your home 9not being limited where the mirror is) and pictures will be clearer when you don't have the camera in your hands. After I discovered the tripod and timer option I would never go back to taking the pictures in the mirror!

The Theory jacket looks amazing -- love it with that sweater. And the white dress is really interesting and fun. I can't believe you can wear that at this time of year!! (It is snowing as I write....)

What a fun collection of outfits! I love the rolled pants in #1 and that blue jacket. The dress is #2 is just delicious, with all of that architecture, and I really love the colour you used as a topper and how it's interacting with the white. Fun stompy shoes too! (I was surprised at how difficult it was to get a picture of my feet when I tried to photograph some socks I knit! hehe) I was going to suggest the same thing as Sveta-see if shortening the straps fixes the fit in the bust. I have to shorten the straps/sleeves on a lot of the dresses & sleeveless tops I buy. At least it's easy!

The 3rd outfit is actually my favourite: I love all of the colours, both alone and together, and shorts over tights is one of my favourite silhouettes.

Your pics look good & I bet once you get your tripod & remote sorted, it'll get much easier. I have a remote that I just love but have yet to get a tripod (I use a stack of books on top of my desk). I wish I had one, though!

I know you weren't so sure about it but I love #3! The other two are terrific also but I think #3 is my favorite. (I am always a bit surprised when something I don't like is liked by others but there you have it.)

Sveta: the jacket is leather! I managed to find a better picture of it here:

I hadn't thought to try to shorten the straps more - I'll definitely do that!

I'm glad people like outfit #3 - that was a frustrating day off getting dressed, so it's good to hear it worked out in the end.

All three outfits are wonderful, and I like #3 best actually. But #1 and #2 are fabulous in their own way. Fun to see you in brights and pastels too. Your camera is fab.

The white dress in outfit #2 is so amazing! Girly and architectural at the same time. I also really like the color combination in #1. And your pictures are waaaay better than the ones I manage.

I actually really like #3. What were you unsure about in it? That's a great shirt. I wonder how it would look with tights that were one or two shades lighter, a pale gray instead of charcoal. Not sure if it would look too blocked up or pick up the almost pastel shade of the shirt.

I like all three of of these as well. Would have no idea you didnt see three as amazing if you didnt mention it. I think 1 is my fave for the bright color combo, although the dress in two nearly steals the show!

Thanks all! Wow, so much love for #3 I got my tripod set up today, and new batteries for my remote, but ended up taking a nap instead of playing around with it when it was still light out. I might try it out with my bedroom lights after dinner.

Suz - I forgot that I hadn't responded to your comment about the weather. I've actually forgotten that it's winter in the northern hemisphere right now - it was 70F out yesterday and today! I was actually a bit worried about being too warm with my tights in #3.

Greyscale - I'm not entirely sure why I wasn't happy with it. I spent so long getting dressed that day that it's possible that my frustration just bled over and I wasn't going to find myself happy with anything I put together. I think I also felt like it's a fairly standard combination for me, but I guess that's not really a bad thing. I tend to stay away from light colored tights, but it's maybe something I should experiment with.

MuseumGal - Thanks! Playing with gender expectations is one of my favorite things about fashion It wasn't intentional in any of these outfits, but I do sometimes do it intentionally. I'm really drawn to androgyny, which I think shows up a lot in the pieces I'm attracted to.

Oh, also, I meant to comment for others' benefit that #1 is amazing in person, a super-bright color combination that I would never have thought of.
