Hi,
I really liked the picture perfect challenge started with rules by Bella, but had bad lighting (rain) and not much creativity/ideas for outfits that week.
But now, it is sunny, the challenge has passed, and some great outfit ideas were posted by other participants each and everyday.
So here's my take on the week. I noticed, I kept pulling from "on hold" items to complete the challenge.
Day One-Picasso's Boy with a Pipe
As seen here, many participants went with a overall blue outfit. I struggled most with this outfit as I do not favor warmer colors in my wardrobe. The denim dress is all blue, and was in the donate pile. The cowboy boots and belt are my nod to the warmer orange background in the painting and the flower necklace is my nod to the flower headpiece on the boy.
Day Two-Gustav Klimt's, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer
I really liked the gold skirt Bella wore on this day. I was stumped for gold, until I remembered these gold pants, I haven't worn in a year! I got the waist altered, the length shortened and built the outfit around it. My black top is my nod to the lady's black hair. My patterned scarf is my nod to the mosaic detail of the painting. I got the idea to use the scarf after seeing Aida's twist with her patterns in outfit #3 here. My two tone bracelet (which is also rarely worn) is my nod to the gold and silver bangles the lady wore which I never would have noticed in the painting if Bella had not included this detail in her painting description.
Day Three-Picasso, "Nude, Green Leaves and Bust"
Jonesy wore a blue blazer and white jeans on this day which gave me the idea to wear mine. The dotted top is my nod to the black and white in the painting. Then I noticed blonde hair in Bella's description of the painting and remembered my yellow bag. Finally, MaryK wore a cameo as a nod to the Picasso bust and I remembered to include mine.
Day Four-"Dora Maar with Cat."
Color wise, this was my easiest day. There was a lot of red and purple outfits on this day. Inspired by MaryK's generally colorful outfits and superb shoe collection worn in a business setting (I had client meetings this day), I wore another "on hold" item, my purple sheath dress. Thinking of AJ's creativity with outfits, the red necklace is actually much longer, but I wrapped it around twice to shorten it. The red pumps are a nod to MaryK, and the red in the painting. The red belt is also a nod to the red in the painting. The white bag is a solid block of white, just as seen in the paintings background. The black cardigan is a nod to the black hair.
Day Five-Van Gogh's "Irises."
Irises are my favorite flower, so I found it odd this was another day I really struggled with an outfit. Then I saw, Aida's purple top, Bella's flowy cardigan and use of gray, and Jenava's light colored skirt all in this thread, and an outfit was made. The purple t-shirt and green tank were my nod to Aida's top and the purple and green of the Irises. The flutter cardigan and light gray skirt were my nod to Bella's cardigan and use of gray's as well as Jenava's light colored skirt. These colors are also a nod to the light Iris in the painting near the left and the light brushstrokes pointed out in the description by Bella.
Comments/Suggestions on outfits are welcomed, as I am open to tweaks to wear these out in public again.
Thanks to everyone who participated, it was great fun to read, see ideas and then brainstorm.
I'll also post the outfits on the keepsake thread. And some observations in the what you learned thread.
