WIW: Petite + Volume - YouLookFab Forum

After reading Shannon's PPP post (love that!) I thought I'd better post a WIW. I love the volume on volume look, especially oversized, drapey tops but they seldom love me back. They usually swallow me up and make me look like I was playing dress up in mom's closet. I got this Trouve sweater (http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/tr.....alizedsort) last night and immediately took the tags off. I'm wearing it today with BR Martens as my interpretation of volume over volume. Does it work at all or does it look like I got at mom's closet again? I'm including the stock photo of the sweater so you can see the details. I'm hoping the T-neck and fitted sleeves give me adequate structure. (I know you can't really see these details in my dark photos). All thoughts welcome. Also including an inspiration picture of a blogger http://lellavictoria.creatorsofdesire.com/ (petite I think) wearing volume on volume.

Love the sweater. I had been eyeing that one, too.

I think for the volume on volume look it might work better if the proportions were a bit different. The blogger's sweater is shorter than this one. You might achieve a similar look with a sort of semi-tuck (since this piece is very drapey).I am not sure you need to go a short as hers because there's less sharp contrast between your pants and sweater. But I would like to see how it looks that way.

The sweater will definitely work brilliantly with skinnies or even (I think) a slim straight.

I love this combination just as it is. Fashion forward. All over the catwalks right now. The slits on the welt add just enough structure. Well done.

After I saw my own look this morning (and liked it) ...confession...I felt a bit guilty about my comment here.

And looking at it again, my sense is that part of my hesitation was due to the angle of your HEAD in these photos. Stupid, I know. But it wasn't giving me the full sense of your whole body, you know? I honestly think that if I looked at you straight on, with your face looking at me, I'd have a very different feeling about this. But I only realized that after I did my own try on and played in the mirror and with the pics.

In this case, especially, MOTION would make the outfit. This is a super drapey fluid piece and in movement must be terrific.

I think you look better than the blogger. The blogger looks lovely- don't get me wrong! -- but more in the "fantasy" category because that hem is soooo long and in all practicalities those lovely neon yellow pants would look like mud in five minutes, for the rest of us.

Then again I was watching some period PBS piece the other night, and yeah, I guess back in the day hems got muddy and yucky. But we live in the real world, with dry cleaning bills, and all that...

I have totally digressed.
