WIW: Orphan on mother's day

I've had this jacket over two years, and never worn it. It's Ann Taylor silk, and really nice quality (it was a hand-me-down from a friend). This morning I really wanted to wear gray, and finally I remembered it, and tried it. I don't think the combo is perfect (the jacket seems maybe a bit light for the rest of the outfit for me?), but it was the best I could come up with, and I felt good in it. Perhaps this jacket won't be an orphan too much longer?

What do you think? Is it worth working into my closet more? How would you style it? Is the color okay for me?

Amy I find the colour very attactive on you and I like the colour with the top you are wearing underneath. The jacket itself though does look dated to me. When I say that, I do actually see this cut of jacket around but for me the style harkens back to the (I think) 90's and it is currently more popular with quite mature age ladies.

I trust you don't me commenting as such. I feel confident when you ask you want honest opinions ? The outfit itself does look quite lovely on you. I think the question is really does the jacket reflect your current style goals?

I love the jacket on you. I like the cut, the color (with both your skin and hair), and the weight of the material. I like how you've styled it with the top echoing the lighter color.

I don't think I'm aware of trends enough to comment usefully on whether it's dated--to me it doesn't look dated but I probably wouldn't know.

*However*--if it is, I think you can totally get away with it. The reason I think so is that you have a pretty eclectic style in terms of time periods. You thrift a lot and so you're never wearing outfits composed of pieces that were bought at the same time. Your criteria for wearability are color and line and harmonious composition. It's an adventure looking at your WIWs because I never know what you're going to wear next, or how you're going to combine it. So from my point of view you're going to judge things on how flattering they are and how you feel in them, much more than when they were in style. And you look terrific.

If I didn't want honest opinions, I wouldn't be learning anything Deborah - I especially appreciate yours because I know that they are honest. Thank you! I had thought also that the cut of this jacket - particularly the collar cut - was probably dated.

And Adelfa, you're also right, that at least right now, I'm more more focused on whether something fits and the color is good and the line is okay (I'm still really clueless on line) than on whether something is current.

That said, I want to know when something isn't current - just so that I'm aware :), and so that I can better think about whether something does reflect my style goals.

I actually thought it was more of a blouse than a jacket (goes to show you I look at the pictures before I read )

Anyway, I think the colors are fine together, especially for a spring look!

I like the colour of the jacket against your complexion, but in the same breath I vote pass on. Dated. I am SURE you will thrift a much better jacket very soon!

This is a great color on you but I agree the style is dated. I used to have several work jackets in this style, but the high stance and boxy cut was so distinctively 90s that I got rid of them - which was hard because they were well made and possibly from AT.

Like Angie said, you can find something better in this color!
