WIW: Non-suit interview outfit

I've been going on a lot of interviews lately. Here is one of my less formal outfits...

Any constructive criticism is appreciated! Do you think it's okay for a non-conservative interview?

I think this is a very nice business casual look for an interview. Add a matching jacket for a suit look to bring this up a notch. Or add a cardigan if it's high a/c in the room. I especially like this style skirt on you.

Wow, Marianna, you look fantastic! Is that the NAS skirt?? Love the color! This looks very polished & pretty conservative in a non-suit way to me. Are you going for an artsy look or just a less formal conservative look?

Shana, I'm definitely not going for artsy as I don't have an artsy bone in my body. I didn't want to look too conservative either... so I'm not sure what I'm going for. Do I look really conservative? I guess I have a tendency to do that, and I'm not sure why! What can I do to make it less conservative? And yep, it's the NAS skirt!

Hi, I love that color combination.

How is the fit of the skirt at the waist? If ok, I would love to see the same outfit, just with the shirt tucked in and a thin belt , maybe in black , grey or a contrasting color?

I personally always put on a jacket, as my "security blanket". However, I believe the outfit is quite appropiate for a more casual interview.

May I ask? What kind of field(s) or position(s) are you applying for? That is also a factor.

Regarding how to make it less conservative.
My opinion is that you have a great "blank canvas". The two pieces can be dressed up or down as needed.
Some things that came to mind:
- Try adding a vest ( I'm not sure if the belt is removable)
- One " statement" accessory: An oversized watch, a substantial necklace or a big / funky brooch.

Zapotee, I am wearing both a statement necklace (hard to see in the picture, but it's a big chunky double strand pearl necklace) and a big watch. The belt is removable but I don't have a vest. The fit of the skirt is great so I guess I can play around with tucking the shirt in. Thanks for your great suggestions!

i'm normally conservative with interview outfits, but this one hits that sweet spot of polished yet relaxed. i love the fit and proportion of the whole outfit and the accessories.

that watch! that necklace! those shoes!

the belt on the top is super-flattering.

Thank you for posting this outfit. Interview outfits are so complicated when it's not appropriate to wear a suit, and you've done such a nice job putting together something that looks polished but not too fussy. I really like the whole outfit, but like Scarlet, I think a different colored shoe might look better. For some reason, the gray and khaki don't work that well together for me.

I love the look and have the same skirt! My only suggestion is a darker shoe because of the amount of black on top. Or you could bring a lighter necklace or scarf near the face to balance the lightness of the shoes.

Thanks for all your input ladies! I hadn't thought about the grey shoes looking off but thanks for pointing that out. Problem is, I don't have any black pumps. These are my only "interview" shoes. Maybe I should invest in a black pair...

Michelle, oops sorry! I am wearing the NAS Halogen seamed pencil skirt in olive, a black button down shirt with a matching black belt, grey kitten heel pumps, a pearl necklace, and white watch.

You look beautiful! I normally wouldn't like the grey shoes with your other colors but for some reason I really like the look in this outfit! I almost feel like black shoes would just be too predictable or boring...

Stunning, Marianna! It is a great interview outfit for less conservative field.
Grey pumps do not bother me with olive at all - I think they go together pretty well.
However I am with Jean on needing to balance this black a bit...maybe you add can add a jacket in a lighter color?
You look so pretty....
