WIW - my complicated affair with A-line skirts

I have been pretty much absent on the forum for the last week. First we went on vacation and after we came back we had to get two our sons to universities in one weekend - to different cities in opposite directions! That was quite a weekend for me...
So it was quite a relaxation to get to work this week - and get to dress up again!
A-line and flared skirts were a skirt staple for me before YLF as they are quite flattering for my body type. However lately I have difficulty styling them. Maybe I just got bored with wearing this type of skirt only for the last 5 years?:-)
Today I have attempted to wear A-line skirt again and really liked the result. What do you think? Any suggestions for improvement? Should I keep the skirt at all?

Beth, this is the same skirt I tried to style before. I think adding boots and jacket just changed it for me...

Affairs are always complicated :)! I think this skirt looks amazing on you, and you've styled it so well with the belt, jacket, and scarf. There are lots of different colors and textures to look at, but it doesn't seem busy or forced.

Glad you made it through your sons getting off to separate universities! What exactly does a quiet, clean house feel like? (my kids are 8 and 12)

Adding the boots makes sense, Sveta. I know I've struggled with a-line skirts before...and I've never tried them with boots for some reason. You've given me an idea, hmmmm.

I like this with the jacket and boots - a very good look for fall and winter. It looks like this skirt could also be paired with deep, rich fall/winter colors too. I would definitely keep it and keep the new looks coming!

I think you look fantastic in an a-line skirt - especially when you keep the top more streamlined/fitted. I have to admit that I am not loving this particular skirt though. I find that type of embroidery, especially on skirts, to be a dated look. Personally, I would say toss on this skirt.

I really like the boots sans hose look (remember Angie blogging about it last year) - perfect for the transitional weather!

On me I find A line skirts have a tendancy to look a tad frumpy, but you've pulled it off with style I shall be pinching the look to try myself x

Love this look on you! The colors! the textures! the boots! the fit!! That A-line fits you so perfectly that, even when it's worn out, you should keep it as a pattern for a seamstress to copy for you in other fabrics. In fact you may want to do that now if it doesn't have to be taken apart.

Sveta, I was just talking about my lukewarm relationship with my A-line skirts in a different thread. There is something about pencil skirts that is very sophisticated and chic that is very hard to capture with A-line skirts. That said, I think this outfit is a complete success. I love that animal print belt and would steal it from you!

I feel the same as Bella about A-lines vs pencils on me. I also agree that you have pulled together a very successful outfit here! You look really nice and well put together!

On a side note, I also have two children, both in college and in different cities away from home: one in Chicago and one in Philadelphia.

Sveta - fabulous outfit. I agree: the boots and yellow scarf are great. The A-line skirt is your friend, girl. The shape (and length) is absolutely perfect. I love the denim jacket with pushed-up sleeves. Nice finishing touch!
