WIW: Leather and Lang (inspired by Raisin!)

Raisin's amazing leather and Helmut Lang combination inspired me to wear my Theory leather blazer and Helmut Lang skirt with Gidigio boots. This hits all the buttons on how I want to FEEL, and although the skirt is more bodycon than usual for me, it's totally stretchy and unrestrictive.

Also was able to tone down the hairstyle a bit for a workday - not all clients want an anime lawyer!

I love this skirt Una. I see it online once in a while, and always think of you. The color and pattern is fierce! I think HL goes very well with leather. I really like the cut of that blazer, it's minimalist perfection.

Rae, the Gidigios look great with bare legs. I have tried it in the house. I think a frayed shorter skirt or shorts would be a fab spring look.

I would hire you if I needed a lawyer! You look super confident and sharp. Those boots are really fab on you, and the jacket, too! The skirt adds a flirty flair which balances the rest very well. Love this!

Tina, this is the leather version of my Theory Lanai blazer. Alicat has it too. The Lanai is my FAVORITE shape for a jacket now - like the Helmut Lang smoking jacket that I've pinned about 10,000 times.

Una you have such an enviable closet. I really love all the pieces you have added in the past year. The jacket and skirt look amazing together. And your choice of layering top is perfect.

ETA -- I think the outfit takes on a rugged persona with the Gdigios (sp?). Which works and makes sense for your climate. I think a more refined bootie or heel would work too, without losing too much cool factor or straying too far from your style persona. Does that make sense?

I am trying to find ways to use everything I have more. I feel like Natalie has set a great example for that - if she can use her whole wardrobe through a pregnancy, I should be wearing everything I own too!

To be 100% honest, you look *AWESOME* It's not something that would be comfortable for a lot of women (myself included) but totally works on you! You look authentic and really lovely.

Denise, you are psychic! And I am so appreciative of your suggestions. I actually have a more refined pair of black boots coming in the mail (if you can call Harley-Davidson refined). They are these:

A little sleeker? Or maybe my judgment is off - I'm so bad with sleek boots! I was looking for something more midcalf and as an alternative to the Gidigios, which I really shouldn't wear EVERY day.

Yes, leather and Helmut Lang apparently do go well together! Love the gorgeous colors of the skirt on the black ground -- and complementing your hair.

Here's my honest feedback: I would like to see the outfit with one leather item--the jacket or the boots (as you do in the second picture). Having both feels a bit heavy to me. Or maybe it's a proportion thing, e.g., more streamlined leather footwear to go with the blazer.

Is it sad that I didn't even realize I was wearing two leather items? You're right, and Denise hinted at it also. I am at a loss for footwear though, since it's only boots for me until May... Unless the boots I ordered are sleek, but they are still leather!

Heh, I think I crossposted with you and Denise! Those HDs are really cool and sleeker than the Gigidios, but sleek is relative, right? It's hard to get away from leather footwear for sure, especially in your climate, so perhaps minimizing the amount of leather is the way to go...

Oh, echoing everyone's love of the skirt but with the BOOTS--my oh my! Such a moody, almost surreally cool look. It's like you get to have your cake and eat it too. Arty black! Splash of color! So unexpected.

ETA: On the leather, plus leather, plus leather issue, I have chosen to ignore it, since it is cold and nasty here, and all of my bad weather shoes as leather. I do have some suede booties and boots that I take in a pinch too.

I am feeling so limited by my footwear "issues" lately, so I can relate. I am forced to do so much walking, on rain, ice, snow, you friggin name it. sometimes I have to show up, ready to roll, to a corporate office, where often times I'm a guest and I cannot show up with a change if shoes. Booo....
