WIW: Jumping the gun

I was going to consider this "Team Wear", but it's really a bit more than that. Today to church, I wore my not-even-finished-yet tube skirt. I held it on with a piece of elastic, pinned together. And it worked just fine.

But I do think I'll be more comfortable in it once it's finished.

I started off with the white necklace, but felt like it was too many accessories (earrings+necklace+watch). So I removed it. But then it was frigid in church, and I wore my white jean jacket all morning (then took the pic at night with poor lighting - sorry for the bad pic).

What do you think? Suggestions for improvement?

Amy your skirt looks fab, finished or not:) I am not so crazy about the white denim jacket with this, even though technically it does work. The blue toppers are fantastic. I think I might prefer a lower contrast jacket, but take this with a grain of salt as I am not as enamoured with white as some.:)

Great choice of fabric, shape and length for the skirt. And yes, I've worn things that are quite "finished." myself!

P.S. Scrunching the sleeves on the jacket would look great!

Deborah, black looked better with it, but felt too dark - it's still summer, and today was the first day under 95F in a week (I think it was still around 90). I like the scrunching sleeves idea, Beth Ann - I'll try that next time.

And nope, no pattern. I just pinned the waist on me, and then sewed a rectangle. Then I tried it on, decided where I wanted it to start tapering and sewed again, a line up at a slant from the bottom (it's tapered in a bit over an inch on each side - so a total of nearly 5 inches removed).

This skirt is going to be so great -- I predict you will be grabbing it all the time! I need to get mine sewn up. I can't wait for cooler weather. It's back to school, I want to wear my fall clothes!

The skirt looks beautiful. I love the length and tapering. I think you should tuck in the shirt when wearing with the white jacket. You look lovely in blue.

Homemeade tube skirt? So awesome! It looks perfect, and I love the blue top with it. Like the idea of scrunching jacket sleeves or a cropped jacket. Or maybe even a very thin cotton anorak? I liked the white necklace, too.

Cobalt - I cut up a maxi dress from target for the fabric - it's a mid-weight drapey jersey with good recovery. My guess is that it's a cotton-poly blend, but I didn't actually look at the tag before cutting into it.

Woa! I am soooo impressed! You have such amazing skills! This looks really, really good Amy! The length is perfect - and the blue is a great color to pair it with. I''m wondering - is the blue top cut straight across the bottom - or does it have "tails" - or is it a hi-low? I'm thinking about a top that you could perhaps semi-tuck in front and let hang down in back? Also, I really like the white jacket with it - and I agree with the others who suggest to scrunch those sleeves. You could wear this skirt as a neutral - pair almost any color with it - and perhaps even some white with black polka-dots pattern mixing? That might be fun!

I've just read that this is the striped maxi upcycled. Fantastic job, Ami, what a transformation. As a skirt it has boodles of style. Do you have white tops to play with? Not the most practical, I know, but white would be smashing.

My best suggestion is finish the skirt and wear it a lot. I like it with the white jacket!
