WIW: Inspired by Ceit and Diana!

I was inspired by Diana's gorgeous knit tunic to pull out this Missoni for Target cardi. What footwear does one wear with blue? Does black work here? Anyway, the silhouette, although a familiar one for me, is re-inspired by Ceit's recent looks with stompy boots and skinnies and cardis.

I loooove black with blue. And I think this is where hair-bookending shoes come in so handy, since they don't necessarily have to match your clothing.

I think all of the colors and proportions work here but the cardi is more modern classic than UWP, so the boots, which are super UWP, are a disconnect for me. I'd go with a sleek bootie or even pump with this one.

Una do you ever feel like cheating on the UWP and stepping into another style persona? Oh yeah I suppose in your work life you have to have do that. And I guess the UWP is ok with that otherwise she would have already kicked your butt.

Denise, I actually spend most of my time trying to be UWP despite my work constraints. Interesting about the boots - is there a disconnect in mixing styles, I wonder? I always assumed you could inject an element of another style to remain true to yourself, just as Natalie adds a bit of UWP with studded bracelets but still retains her bombshell looks.

Must ponder outfit integrity - is it like seasonal confusion or something else?

To me it's degrees. You can mix different elements to put a hint of this or that. And some juxtaposition actually makes outfits more interesting. I guess it was the refined nature of the cardi as well as the classic Missoni weave that was fighting with the tough boots. Just to me. I hope it is OK to be so frank, because I really like the colors and proportions here -- white blue and black and the tucked pants.

Hey, look, Una's wearing stripes! And liking it! (yes, I see this sort of continuous chevron as an unbroken stripe, and I was just suggesting Missoni on your other thread)

Love these colours and the pattern mix. I'd readily pair blue and black too. And Rae's reminding me I really need to get over my aversion to black footwear (for myself, I keep wondering if the contrast with my leg is stumpifying) so I can bookend better...

I'll definitely leave the analysis to those more stylish and wiser, but I will say that this outfit is VERY flattering on you and has a lot of interest to me. The blue-black combination looks perfect.

Una, I hope you do an "ask Angie" on this as I'm so curious about what her answer will be. On the one hand, I really like your look here, on the other hand, Denise has a good point...when it comes to mixing styles, is it about degrees?

Thinking about color, texture, and now style mixing - 2/3 of this, 1/3 of that, a hint of this & a pinch of that - all while trying to get dressed and out the door in the wee hours of the a.m. - oh my! I might just end up going to work in my pj's!

It all sounds like a recipe, but isn't that what an "ensemble" or "outfit" is - a recipe?

The first thing I noticed was the light jeans with boots - I have been doing that a lot lately and I love validation! I like the colors of the cardigan and Missoni chevron does not read classic to me, although I see Denise's point. I have to think about whether there is a disconnect but it is definitely not something I noticed right off.

I like the juxtaposition between the classic cut of the cardi and the tough belt and boots. The cardigan just looks like many styles of over-robes, so I think it still works in the UWP aesthetic.

The light jeans are a nice twist also!

Like Manidipa, the first thing I noticed was that the cardigan has stripes of a sort. Love that colour of blue on you and I do like the pairing with the lighter jeans.

I'm also interested in Denise's point because I am one who really likes juxtaposition in an outfit but wonder where it stops being well done and starts to not work.

I'm honored to have inspired you! I actually LOVE the juxtaposition of the cardi with the boots. But I wonder if it comes off as more AE and less UWP. So the juxtaposition thing is a huge part of AE style, at least in my interpretation, and is one of the things I love most about it. And as Angie said, although I have UWP elements in my style I am not a UWP.

My feeling about juxtaposition is that it has to look intentional. Thrown together, but not getting dressed in the dark. =P This looks intentional to me.

I like the outfit and don't see a problem with juxtaposing the boots and the sweater. The long length of the sweater doesn't read particularly classic to me though. I think the black boots look good and the black belt helps make them look purposeful.

I love this outfit on you. One of the things I like about it is the tough-looking many-buckled boots with the classic Missoni patterned cardigan. To me it's fresh, and it looks like you. The layering tee ties things together very well, in my view. It looks like a diffuse print, so, like the boots, it's less refined looking, and yet it goes beautifully with the sweater.

I like this outfit on you. I like the light colored pants with the dark boots. I like the blue ofthe cardi, so pretty on you.

I think the boots are UWP, but as they are styled, I don't think it takes away from the rest of the look. I think the rest of the look softens the boots, so to speak. Granted, sleek riding boots would also go, but then it would give off a different vibe.

I say wow! The boots work really well here. Not too big/heavy for the sweater and jeans (which is something I always worry about).
