WIW: how I learned to stop worrying and love the crazypants

Since I started posting here, I've been thinking a lot about my closet orphans and how to wear them. One in particular has been on my mind, and I decided to try to wear it for the company holiday party we're having today.

So shortly after leaving school and getting my first job, flush with the power of my first Christmas bonus and my lack of both dependents and longterm goals that required savings, I unwisely (?) purchased this jacket on super sale (http://pnut.me/wp-content/uplo.....760786.jpg). It's amazingly gorgeous and I love it so much (so I'll never get rid of it even though I probably should), but it's super difficult to style because it's so high fashion so I haven't worn it very often. If people have ideas on how to dress it down so I could wear it more often, I'd love to hear them.

I was dithering yesterday about what I could possibly wear with it, and when putting away one of my rejected attempts, I caught sight of my crazypants (they're the same ones Greyscale is wearing here http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....crazypants) which I have actually never worn because they've always looked absurd to me. It was a match made instantly in closet orphan heaven.

Belt - Cotelac (actually black - the lighting in #4 just makes it look brown)

Pants - Margiela for H&M
Shoes - Stuart Weitzman

OMG I am going to come steal that outfit from you RIGHT NOW. Seriously, I love it so much.

And the jacket? I would wear it with everything. Jeans, black pants, LBD, you name it.

This is me if you don't agree please ignore The only thing I would change is the sleeve length - I know they add drama but they look so impractical & feel a tad overwhelming. Love the shirt too

ETA ah I just looked at the link - they have the sleeves scrunched in the stock photo & I think it looks great.

Crazygood look for you. I feel like you could wear this anywhere and look appropriate, it is so unique. Well, maybe you would look out of place on a ski hill...but if you add a beanie, it might work.

@Caro: I think the jacket overall is pretty impractical, so I'm not sure that the sleeves really get in the way I do tend to like my sleeves longer than most as well! I've actually tried to scrunch them up like the model in the picture, and as best as I can tell, the model has sticks for forearms, because I can't get them more than halfway up and they don't stay there at all :/

Oh yeah, and I think the difference in how we wore the same pants really shows our different styles perfectly. I'm way too minimalist for that awesome jacket.

OMG I love this! (I loved Greyscale in the trousers too & totally want a pair for myself.) Like Diana, I'd wear the jacket with anything: more casual bottoms would tone it down a bit, but you own that look. You wear it, it doesn't wear you, so go out confidently.

Well hello, Mrs. Fancypants!

There is something that reminds me of old-style samurai clothing here, especially from the back. Something almost quaint and old-fashioned in amongst all that drama, and that juxtaposition makes me very happy.

I dig that white blouse on you too, you have a lovely silhouette in that.

I love the jacket with the black trousers too. You need a slightly shorter sleeve length though. To my eye anyway - what do you think?

Have you tried the same jacket over skinny jeans or a black pencil skirt?

Jacky. I forgot to say before - have you tried the jacket with jeans or shorts or culottes? Do you wear dresses? It could look great over a simple dress too. I think dressing it down could really work well.

Crazy amazing orphan pairing! The jacket is fantastic (and since i'm new to following fashion i havent looked at Haider Ackermann before but will now!). This outfit has so much movement and richness, I definitely look forward to seeing more of your posts!

I've tried the jacket over skinny jeans before, but I was worried that the jacket made my shoulders look too broad and that the contrast was sort of strange. I've worn it over this dress before http://images.bergdorfgoodman......D5L_mx.jpg, and it worked really well but isn't very casual (I wore it for a wedding). I've not tried it with a pencil skirt, but I've got a couple in my closet I could try it with!

I've not really thought about taking the sleeves in because I'm worried about taking an item this expensive to a tailor. I live in SF - can anyone recommend a tailor in the area I could trust with it? I do like my sleeves long, but I guess that usually works better with less structured/more casual things like hoodies.

For the record I would keep the sleeves as is. I like the drama of the long length, and they are slim which keeps it from being overwhelming. I should also state here that I absolutely detest bracelet length sleeves so please don't tell me if you decide to do that to this amazing jacket! I shall be sad....

Oh, I definitely wouldn't bring it to bracelet length - I'd probably shorten them to halfway down my palm (I think they're currently at my knuckles, but I'm not sure. I'm also pulling my shoulders back in that picture more than I normally do - I slouch a lot! - so it's possible they look longer than they usually are too).

There are definitely tailors who could do that well. It's a really simple alteration. There are two in the financial district who I've had recommended. I have the names written down somewhere. (Jeremy's Department Store has a list of recommended tailors for repairing their damaged designer items, which is where I got one name.)

Stunning! That jacket is exquisite. The color looks fantastic on you and I love the crazypants paring. I could also see it with basically all types of regular pants and a pencil skirt, as others have suggested.

Oh gosh! That's just stunning. You have unique style and it suits you completely! I too think this jacket would be stunner with less volume down. And the length makes it perfect for pants, skirts and dresses!

That outfit is very original and unique. I love the jacket! And it seems to me that it could be worn with a lot of bottoms, I think I would wear it a lot.
