I woke up to the sound of rain on the street. It warms my heart. We're still in an epic drought overall, but this spring has been rainy and foggy and cool like San Francisco weather is supposed to be. This winter was the first time in history that we got no rain in normally-wet January, so things have felt very off balance.

Today's clothing is mostly second-hand. I found YLF just as I was shifting towards buying more new clothes (to stay on top of current trends) but I still have a lot of consignment gems.

Jeans: Genetic Denim legging jeans from Crossroads (as a genome biologist, I love their DNA logo, so I'm glad I finally found a pair that fit).

The wool jacket is this really cool double-layer design, solid black over pinstripe. Unfortunately it still smells like perfume from its previous owner a year after I bought it, so I don't wear it often (gives me a mild headache).

For some reason I thought you were in LA.

I love that jacket. Can you air it out or hang it in a window for a few days (weeks)? What a shame on the perfume lingering. Or febreeze or at home dry clean in the dryer (though those last 2 options may just swap scents rather than remove).

I know! I was so excited when I woke up to hear rain! It's a summery warm rain. No bother to walk in, IMO.

Great outfit. The one thing about rain here, I find I'm always unprepared for it...

Abc, Febreze is a good thought - I just discovered they make an unscented version now. I've been hanging it on my clothes rack (not in a closet) all year in hopes the perfume would dissipate, but I bet putting it in direct sunlight and fresh air would help a lot more.

Rachy, it's so warm! I always forget that it warms up when it rains. The wool jacket is overkill.

I love that jacket. I would hang it in an open window for as long as it takes to get rid of the odor. Put it in the sun if you don't think it will fade.

Alas, we only had a few droplets down here in San Jose.

It's too bad about the fragrance, because it is a great jacket. There must be some way to get the fragrance out without putting another one in. Does anyone know if dry cleaning would take it out?

Good grief, I get enough headaches without having my clothing give them to me too! How awful. If you've had the item for a year and it still smells, it sounds like the scent is embedded in the fabric. I once bought a tee shirt on-line that arrived reeking of cigarettes. I washed it many times, hung it outside, no matter what I did I could not get the smell out. I left it in my basement for a year and finally the smell is gone.

Lovely jacket over a terrific monochrome look. Too bad about the - eh - fragrance. I've only ever had that problem with one vintage piece, and the smell disappeared when I replaced the lining. I heard a squirt of tee tree oil can do the trick too.
