I'm finally back from a week away and can start posting some of my WritersFest outfits. The rest will have to be recreations (when I get a chance to recreate) but I did get a pic of the first day's outfit.

I have had some insights over the past week; looking forward to posting about those as well, when I get a chance.

I was moderating an onstage event but didn't want to upstage the guest authors so decided on a monochromatic look.

Still working on the picture taking. Not sure taking a portrait shot helped at all with this.

Suz this is a wonderful neutrals outfit with a lot of texture which I think makes a neutral outfit very interesting. I love the scarf and belt and layered cardigan. I wish the boots hadn't been cut off though.
Your garden is really beautiful. That's a wonderful place to take pictures.

Suz, I love this outfit and would wear it in a second. I love the color and texture of your scarf and you looked fab in the center of your group shot on the WritersFest website. Are you taking these photos with a timer or on your mobile phone, because they are coming out very well.

Fantastic decision to go for monochromatic look taking into account your role on the day. How graceful and confident of you.

Your do is simply stunning. That makeover is one of the key YLF moments in 2011 for me, that's for sure.

I think you look stunning and totally appropriate for the writer's conference. I guess if I had to nit pick anything, the earrings feel like a little much because you already have a big scarf. I would probably do one or the other. The new haircut is beautiful but it will take you some time to get used to it.

Absolutely lovely and on-trend! I don't think I have had a chance until now to comment on how amazingly your hair-cut has updated your style. You had lovely hair before but this 'do just really adds so much to your look.

Rita, I agree about those earrings. I didn't actually know if I would end up wearing the scarf indoors due to temperature. And I wanted earrings that were a bit smaller, but it was a last minute purchase and I figured, oh well, it will have to do. I did like the way they echoed the tones in the outfit as a whole but in future I would aim for something smaller if I wore the scarf.

I really don't see any conflict between the earrings and the scarf. If you wear it with confidence (as the photos look) then I would just call it maximalist.

Mine are not true door-knockers, but I guess you can tell I would vote YAY on those.

However, I don't wear earrings (or just teeny studs) when I wear glasses.

Oooh, Una, thank you! I'll grab a pic of the belt tomorrow. I wore it several times last week.

I'm actually cheating with it. It's way too big and not supposed to be worn the way I am wearing it, but it sort of works, and it will fit me properly at my hips and I got it for $5. It's a grey-blue suede and I just loved the texture of it.

I have been meaning to get back to you from another post but have not made it back.
Moving forward... you look just beautiful!!

I love this look. The asymmetry of the skirt, scarf, earrings and hair all add up to a very artistic and elegant look.

I think that poetic would be something to strive for. The geometry of your hair, bold earrings and something flowy and romantic to balance those elements is one of the ways I see your style evolving. Your outfit look captures some of that.

Have you ever seen the catalog Peruvian Connection.

Not a favorite for modern classic folks and I do not think anyone here ever mentions it but some of the looks (disregard all the maxis and too many nomadic sweaters) I think would be beautiful on you. Soft, flowing- great fabric and color. Also some really lovely accessories. I have always been inspired by the styling in this catalog.

Jean, thank you for that link. You are so thoughtful! My first thought when I saw the catalogue was "oh no, too boho!" but you have such a good eye and are so great at putting looks together that I knew I needed to go back and give it a longer examination, and having done so, I absolutely agree that there is something here to inspire me, particularly with textures and some of the colours.

"Poetic" is a nice word for me to keep in mind. My quick associations to this word: concise, coherent, deliberate yet flowing, vivid, sometimes even startling, clever and deeply felt.

Not a bad image to project if I could manage it!

Suz, I find it amazing (still!) that something so simple such as a haircut can completely overhaul one's style! You look absolutely perfect. All of your layers are so interesting even though the outfit is monochromatic.
