WIW - Desigual skirt (inspired by Andrea W) and new leather jacket

Yesterday I decided to suck up my doubts about the Desigual skirt I bought recently, once I saw Andrea W's WIW with her great red and black outfit. I took a similar approach -- the skirt is busy, so I kept everything else simple, with a black leather moto jacket, dark grey long sleeved tee, black tights, black moto boots, and a fuschia cashmere scarf to pick up a bit of the colorful skirt.

This is one of my jackets that is now a little big -- you probably can't tell with my hands in the pockets, but I included a pic with my arms out so you can see -- my torso is much smaller than the spread of the jacket you see here! But it's still handy for layering underneath in colder weather.

Last night I found an awesome leather jacket, and I think it's an excellent replacement for one I am giving to my niece. I couldn't wait to wear it, so it made its debut today.

It's quite cropped in the torso and in the sleeve length, but I like that style and I push up the sleeves anyway. I love the sort of burnished subtle metallic finish and moto styling -- totally up my alley! I paired it with my favorite cornflower blue argyle sweater, a scarf that matches the sweater uncannily well, my magical Paige skinnies that seem to make me look skinnier, and my comfy taupe Frye boots. I included a closeup so you can see some of the feather detail on my new hat!

I realize I'm not showing you the jacket buttoned up, but it looks great buttoned too -- just with a different outfit. I think a higher waisted skirt or pants, or a dress will show that off best.

In #7-8 I'm also including a yay or nay styling idea for the jacket. It's my attempt at playing with proportion -- short over long. I like it, but it's out of my usual comfort zone. The jacket with the same skinnies and boots I'm wearing today, but with a cream Trouve blouse/tunic. What do you think?

for a minimalist, i find that skirt oddly appealing. great set of outfits. love the feather detail on the hat!

Janet, you look stunning. The blue of that scarf with your eyes and skin...the new jacket looks buttery soft and is brilliant with your Fryes. Love the contrast of the leather with the pretty, preppy argyle. To my eye, that is k-worthy for sure. And you are right about those jeans. The hat is also stunning on you.

Love your first outfit, too. The skirt makes all the statement you need and works so well with the scarf and jacket. The jacket looks fabulous, but yes, I can see that it is large for you. It seems like a great piece, though. I wonder about getting a quote for alterations.

Like your simple styling idea in 7/8, too. I feel as if maybe the top needs extra crispness (in this colour) or greater visual weight (not sure which) so perhaps a different tone, ie not as much contrast. But I will be listening to others' thoughts.

Is that your studio you are posing in, in 1/2?

I'm not one for too much pattern but I've got to say that I love the way you styled it. Minimal color lets the skirt shine without looking too busy. It's awesome on you : ) Love the leather jacket with the argyle. That's a great proportion on you. I like it better than with the longer top for some reason. Great fedora!

Suz, you hit on exactly the thought I had -- I was thinking the tunic-y top would look better in a darker color with less contrast. But I like the look.

That leather jacket is fantastic!! Forget about altering your old ones. You found the perfect new replacement. I love how you have styled it both ways, and especially with the hat. I'm not a fan of big patterns but I think the skirt is pretty on you.

Beautiful skirt and beautiful new jacket!! I love both of these pieces, and you've styled them so well. The hat is awesome on you too. Re. the last look with the blouse: it certainly doesn't hold a candle to the argyle/scarf look, but maybe if you added the same blue scarf (or a different scarf), and left the ends long and hanging down, you would get a nice layered, interesting look and keep the cropped-over-long thing going.

Beautiful new jacket, love the color. I love the skirt too, so different, but in a good way. But you look amazing in 4-6. The colors together are gorgeous, and that hat, well you should wear more hats! So Fun.

Ok so I know a lot of people that go Ape over Desigual. I just don't get some of there stuff. That being said that's a pretty nice skirt. New leather jacket looks great.

Thanks, ladies! Suz, I meant to respond to your question -- yep, that's my studio in 1-6. The light is better there for photos than at home. The last two pics are in our bedroom, and the light is definitely lacking.

Anna, I know what you mean about Desigual. I think I really like about 10% of their stuff, and the other 90% does absolutely nothing for me. I do like Asian themed prints, so this one called to me.
