Great look, Una! I'm going to take a stab at why I like this look on you, but hesitate when Suz modeled her outfit.
You have a fierce, no-holds-barred, aspect to your presence that pushes this outfit into the realm of sporty rather than sexy. Anyone trying to hit on you in a mini skirt would likely get stomped on and spit out in a flash. Where does that impression come from? Personally, I think it comes from a host of subtle and not-so-subtle non-verbal cues that count for more as a sum than any article of clothing you choose to put on. YOU infuse the clothing with YOUR personality so the effect of OTK boots and mini skirt becomes UNA-sporty/edgy. In short YOU put the RATE in the clothes, not the other way around.
If I imagine Suz in this outfit, the clothes lose their UNAish quality, and become something less fierce--they get infused with a softness and more restrained sense of quirkiness and fun that belongs to Suz. The mini skirt becomes less butt vest and the OTK boots become less defiant. The citron becomes gentler with Suz's coloring and less dramatic. The whole outfit takes on a more city-street vibe than outdoor rugged. And, in that context, the mini skirt and OTK boots have a different vibe--younger and more fashiony.
Anyway, that's my best attempt. I've probably managed to offend both you and Suz now so I'm thinking I'd better shut up. But this is exactly the kind of thing that I love best about this forum because it helps me realize why some things hang around unworn in my closet. I'll never be able to be a gentle polished, delicate old lady who speaks in quiet tones to her family and friends. I'll be that cranky, cantankerous old woman dressed in black who refuses any offers of assistance as she walks unsteadily, but with great determination, into the sunset, waving her walking stick around her, refusing to call it a "cane"! At least if I dress that way, people will be forewarned!
