WIW: Canadian Tuxedo - YouLookFab Forum

Had a full day of running around today so went purely for comfort. I'm wearing dark skinny jeans, grey graphic tee, dark wash light denim jacket and pops of orange with my flats and my handbag.

What I found interesting when I was getting dressed this morning is that I used to think dressing nicely was 1) more work and 2) more expensive than dressing "any old way". But putting on nice fitting jeans, visually interesting t-shirt, nice fitting and on trend jacket, with comfortable but colourful footwear and a pretty handbag takes no more effort nor money than putting on baggy jeans, sloppy tee, over sized fleece and flip flops.

As always, all comments/ suggestions welcome:

Jacket: Esprit (recently thrifted - very light weight denim, will be great for summer)
Tee: Old Navy
Jeans: Warehouse One Premium dark wash skinnies
Shoes: Born
Handbag: Danier Leather (thrifted)

Cool revelation Shannon. In fact I think dressing well and having a good functionable wardrobe is actually less effort in the long term. I spend less time dressing in the mornings and less time stressing over not having the pieces I don't have... cos I do have them and generally everything works well together

Fab weekend outfit. I really like the graphic t. The pop of color is lovely. You look casual, but still very well put together.

Super cute! I think you nailed the commentary, too. For me, the big suprise is taht I can look great but still casual enough for my life. The orange is making me swoon.

This is a million times cooler than baggy jeans and a fleece, but you're so right: it's not any more trouble or less comfortable to choose something like this.

I couldn't agree more! I actually went through my "gear" and got rid of the stuff I would be frankly embarrassed to be seen in (you know, running into old boyfriend or your boss) and that helped me a lot. I put my left over "good" gear for exercise or gardening or washing the cars in a very intentional spot so it's not as easy to grab.

What a fun look! I like the orange pops of color and the printed t.

Well spoken! I had the same misconception when I was in college. I guess the thing is that I do spend more money on clothes and think more about getting dressed than I used to - but that's because it's become kind of a hobby and I'm interested in style. I can dress stylishly (and comfortably) with ease, though. Lately I've been falling back on easy outfits that look polished without having to put a lot of thought into it- which is why I'm wearing so many dresses lately.

Denise - actually poor Transcona is a part of Winnipeg that is the butt of many jokes. It is a very blue collar part of town and doesn't have the biggest houses or fanciest cars. So we get called "Trashcona" all the time and things like that. It drives me crazy. It's a neighbourhood of hard working, family-oriented people. I wish the snootier neighbourhoods could get that!
