WIW: california winter with a belt

Paired my new super-faded jeans with equally faded colors today, and I think it worked pretty well - they're with my winter-white cable sweater (by far my warmest one), and some cream Goodwill'd perforated oxfords (that are very RATE - they have linen shreds around the openings!?) I rolled them up to see if they function as boy-friend jeans - do they?

And, due to today's blog post, added the new-to-me leopard belt as a sort of focal.

Does it work? It feels "california casual" to me - due to the faded, distressed look.

What are your suggestions for improvement?

I really like the combination of the faded jeans and light sweater and shoes - the shoes and sweater bookend one another nicely and with the jeans, it's almost a "white-out" effect. And the belt really adds some interest.

I think I'm seasonally confused - winter on the top, spring/summer on the bottom....

I like it overall - If I were to critique, I'd probably look for a chunkier belt to wear with chunky sweaters (well, okay I like chunkier belts with a lot of things because I find them to be figure flattering to my waist).

What I mean by "chunky" is something that is at least 1.75" and has some real thickness to the leather and a bold buckle, and maybe studded or embellised in some way like with grommets or even small rhinestones. Could be feminine or more rugged. Sundance Catalog has some fantastic examples (though they are pricey). I always try to buy belts that are a little bigger instead of "just fitting" as I like the loose end to tuck into my belt loop.

Yes Kate - totally agree. This sweater has been in and out of the probation bin several times this winter, because it's short, but I keep coming back to it because it's sooo warm and comfy. Perhaps I'll find a replacement for it before next winter

And thank you Sarah - I liked the white-out affect of this outfit too - it's a very unusual-for-me look. I don't do pastels, but I'm thinking that I like the washed out colors in this sense.

I love the idea of this outfit but agree the sweater is a tad short. You could fix that with a longer underlayer in a matching color.

I like this outfit with the faded jeans and light sweater and shoes. I like Una's suggestion of a long underlayer (cami maybe?) to lengthen the line of the sweater.

i like the all over faded and distressed look going on and the animal print belt adds extra interest

Score on the oxfords! I agree with the previous comments. Thank You for the color epiphany! I don't feel comfortable wearing pastels either but am getting tired of all my winter clothes.

This is fab. I love that the sweater and oxfords match and that they are "oatmeal" as opposed to a stark white. The whole pale palette works, faded denim and lighter belt.

Another thumbs up from me! Perhaps try the neckline unfolded and laying more against your neck? I like Una's suggestions. I understand what it is to struggle for enough length in sweaters and tops!

Love this! As a dark-haired person I always struggle with light shoes, so this is a great example of how to make it work!

You get fancier by the day, Amiable! Love the colors and texture here. I have no idea if it would work, but have you tried blocking the sweater for extra length?
