This one worked better than the first, and I think I liked it. What do you think?

2 good looks! Personally I prefer the first but where are your accessories? Necklace? Scarf? Earrings? The little touches really help make the outfit look completely put together.

Sunee - Thanks! I generally skew minimal, but today I actually did add earrings after this picture - pearls for Jen's DD (pics of them on the tribute post by Deborah).

And Joy - Thank you I bought those oxfords about 1.5 years ago at GoodWill. There's not even brand information on them, sorry.

I have a conference coming up at the end of the month where I'll be in business casual. I've always worn wide-leg pants to that type of occasion and really want to try skinnies this year (probably with a day or two of wide legs too), so I'm trying to work out how much structure and what silhouettes can work with a boxy polo or button up shirt (which will be provided on site and I won't have options about whether to wear).

Really, it's just a new way to play around

Amy, is this business casual for work? In my place business casual means "no jeans"...
However right for the dress code or not I love it. This blazer make the whole outfit IMO. I tend to go minimal on accessories lately so for me the sparkle in the top has enough interest for the outfit but of course adding scarf is a possibility too.

The second outfit is a great casual and the oxfords are amazing.

Thanks Sveta - The "encouraged" dress code for my company in our upcoming conference (90 + percent men) is khaki's and a polo. Most of the conference attendees will be in faded jeans and a polo. (It's construction industry). Last year, denim was welcome as long as it wasn't "blue jeans" (I wore my white jeans and was very appropriately dressed, another woman wore dark wash blue jeans which were also appropriate). So basically, for my work, "business casual" just means a step up from faded blue jeans and a polo

I think this blazer will be coming to the conference with me - it'll allow me to wear a long-sleeved undershirt under my work shirt (which may be short sleeved or long sleeved - I suspect I won't know until I get there). And I like the structure it provides.

Yes, yES, YES!! I love this smart casual look! The jacket looks amazing on you! It looks to be such a great fit! My guess is that the long line elongates your torso and makes you look balanced! the darker wash jeans (?) have a more formal feel than lighter colours. I feel that the sprinkling of sparkles on the top is enough pizzazz for a site visit; I probably wouldn't add much in the way of accessories either.

I would be careful with horizontal stripes on top, particularly with a crew neck, as it can give the illusion of increasing the size on top. What body shape do you think you are, amiable? (Waving, waving)

When I read business casual I expected something that looked trim yet relaxed so I say Yes, Amy, you've hit the nail on the head, #1 is the go.

I think that blazer is perfect. It makes your outfit more professional but not too much. And blazers are great when you can't control the temperature since you can button or not and push the sleeves up or not.
The light oxfords really make the second outfit!

I agree with Sveta on "no jeans" point. If it business then it is business exclusively. In any way I don't imply that pencil skirts and close-fitting skinny dresses should be prefered, although these two looks do not seem to hint on worktime outfit.

Nonetheless, they look great. I liked oxford and skinny jeans duo on the second, and black jacket+white blouse on the first. They seem indeed casual and lovely.

I love this look for business casual. In my office, jeans definitely fit that definition and the dark wash + blazer add polish. I think there is plenty of interest in the top and I wouldn't add a necklace or scarf.

Love the fun 2nd outfit, especially with the oxfords!
