WIW backlog: lilac and black

Angie's blog post reminded me that I never posted this outfit that fits her lilac and black theme for today! The cotton sweater is a lighter shade of dusty purple than it appears in this photo. It's a consignment find and it has really nifty shaping in the way it's knit.
Jil Sander sweater, R13 jeans, Rachel Comey boots.

Two others from my backlog:

Casual work clothes. BR silk top, R13 skinny jeans, Theory sweater, and my great new Madewell lightweight wool scarf.

In-laws casual post-Christmas dinner in Peoria. Hat inspired by Una! White j crew shirt, metallic silk sweater, AG boyfriend jeans, Fluevog oxfords.

(Everything was second-hand/consignment except the R13 skinnies and all the shoes and scarf.)

OH. I want that sweater. It's exactly the shade of dusty mid purple I can never find! And the knitting looks wonderful. Serious case of coveting going on here. While I'm at it, I'll also take everything in photo 4 please. So perfect!

The middle pic outfit is elegant and avant-garde as always, but I can't get over the two ends!

Angie, I've been gravitating towards more light colors recently. I don't know if it's the YLF influence, or if it's that I'm trying not to look like my boyfriend's twin! He wears black from head to toe, and we're around the same build. We just started working in the same building and I find that I'm subconsciously shifting towards looks that are a little less solid black than his, especially on days when colleagues see us in meetings together.

Well, Greyscale. You can still hone your style with different shades of grey. Fun alternative. Options. Great complement to black. Why not.

Plus with hair as RED as yours and lots of it - you always wear colour with the grey and black.

Also keep on meaning to say that I love your specs. That turquoise temple seals the deal. Are your eyes blue too?

Thanks, everyone. And yeah, my hair is quite long in back. I guess the length isn't noticeable from the front except with the braid, because I have so many short layers around my face to bring out the curls (else the length weighs it down too much).

Rachylou, I like the waif comment! I wouldn't have described myself as waif-like (in the street-kid sense, not about size) but I think it fits sometimes.

Gryffin - I'm so flattered to hear that, because I used to feel like I struggled with combining things well. Now that I have a better sense for what works, I usually try on a lot of combinations before I find the right pieces for an outfit.

Angie - my eyes are more like blue-green than really clear blue. Never thought about it, but the temples of my glasses do bring out the blueness. Unfortunately my lenses are high power and make my eyes look small, so they're not my most noticeable feature.

And yes, I forget that my long hair doesn't always show up in photos from the front but it is mid-back length. I'm glad I found a hairstyle that keeps it long but makes it a little more

I don't know where to start! Love the outfits. Even with the muted colors they are so full of energy. Maybe partly because of the fabulous hair, scarf, hat and glasses. How did your outfit "play in Peoria"?

Pil, still chuckling over your question! It played ok in Peoria. In retrospect, ripped jeans for a family holiday gathering (even a casual one) might have come across as inconsiderate/sloppy rather than fashion-forward. My grandmother-in-law (a wonderful charming woman) patted my leg and said "Dear, your jeans are torn!" and just as I was starting to say something apologetic, she burst out laughing and said she knew they were meant to be like that and she was just pulling my leg.

Carambola, thanks for saying the flats look edgy. That's one of those little details that I try to get right so I'm glad it worked. I love classic ballet flats on others, but they're a little too feminine for my own style. So, I looked around for a long time til I found flats that seemed a little more me, and I'm very happy with these. They're FS/NY sloop flats. They're just about dead, so I'm debating what to replace them with (something with more padding, probably, but the same effect).
