WIW Back at home & holiday party

I'm hugging my closet back at home after a few weeks of cruddy jeans, work boots and old tees at the ranch!

First outfit, worn today to a celebration for one of my radio colleagues who is leaving after 10 years with the station -- I will so miss him! I wore the JCrew boyfriend turtleneck I duplicated in navy and turquoise, my houndstooth Rich & Skinny jeans, and Ugg Cortonas. Included a pic with coat and bag too.

Second outfit, worn for the neighborhood holiday party tonight. I was kind of in the mood to wear a more fluid shirt than this, but I also wanted sparkle or some shine, and i don't have quite the right piece that ticks all those boxes, so I went with this classic silk blouse -- from Ann Taylor probably 4 years ago. It's more tailored than current trends, but I love the teal color and the subtle shine for a not-too-dressy event. Paired with Democracy patterned (subtle metallic on black) skinnies and Fossil booties. Added a necklace that was a gift years ago from my husband for a little extra shine.

Also sporting blue fingernails, which keep getting compliments -- I might have to keep doing this nail thing!

Janet, so nice to have you back, and what incredible outfits. Here is proof positive that teal and turquoise are among your most flattering colours! I love the way these outfits show the cohesion of your closet! And they are both perfect for their occasions. #5 is adorable!!

That blouse in the second outfit may not have a current fit but nobody is going to care! It looks amazing on you. Plus, you've brought it fully up to date with its companion pieces. Great jeans!

What lovely colors! I get a lot of ideas on how to wear rich colors in an easy, sophisticated way from you! I think wearing the teal blouse untucked was a great choice -- allowing it to seem more fluid.

Yes, those really are your power colors! Great outfits... (I feel the same when we come home from our little 800 square foot cabin. Our 1500 square foot bungalow feels big! And fancy! Hahaha)

My color palette is certainly staying consistent (yet hopefully not boring) lately, isn't it? I'm finding my wardrobe pretty easy to mix and match these days -- the main concern is finding the right mix of fluid and fitted/tailored when pulling items from my closet. Despite my happiness with my wardrobe, when I was getting dressed for last night, I found myself wishing for a fluid metallic sweater like in Angie's post from the other day. The silk shirt outfit is right on the brink of being too fitted for my current preference (and my mid-holiday, too-much-good-food waistline), but it skims *just* enough, and the jeans are stretchy enough that I felt good wearing it. I wore a black cami underneath to help create a smooth appearance too.

It was kind of nice that even though I was wearing dark color last night, I stood out a little bit -- most of the ladies were wearing either black or red sweaters.

I love that silky blue blouse on you. Heh - who cares if it's a wee bit more fitted. I love the silky shine and colour. Cool pairing with those jeans as well. And of course I always love those JCrew turtlenecks. Just wish I had one too

Peri, the nail polish is Sally Hansen 580 Black and Blue - I got it at Target. It has an irridescent purple cast in the bottle but changes color a bit in different light.

That sweater is gorgeous on you! And you styled it beautifully. I love the shape of the silk blouse on you, even if it's not on the cutting edge of silhouettes. You have so much rocker chic the tailored look still looks uber-stylish!

Welcome back, Janet! Teal and turquoise are your statement colors! It all works so well with the blacks, and your complexion. Satin shirt is still lookin great IMO. Love the necklace in nr 1 and the blue nailpolish is so eyecatching and different!

I hear you on the nails and I think that it's another way of looking pulled together.. especially if just indoors and not wearing coats, bags hats etc... I'm really getting into doing mine more regularly too and I'm after some funky colours
