WIW as I Transition - YouLookFab Forum

So I am learning how to take inspiration and make an outfit. This is the pin that inspired today's outfit. I don't have a cheetah print skirt (yet) so I had to use what I had to evoke the feeling of this outfit.

I am learning to let my pins inspire my outfits rather than trying copy them. At this stage even if I have all the pieces to copy I still may not be able to wear the outfit as pinned. (No sense in inviting disappointment) I am very happy with this interpretation. My hair is freshly washed so it essentially sent me the "resistance is futile" memo - I had to do what it wanted to do. I thought my hair today was an artsy addition to the outfit.

I am wearing:

Navy Apt. 9 knit jersey waterfall cardi tied as a wrap top
Apt 9 cheetah print scarf
Be band in white
ON basic white tank
ON cords in deep teal
Land's End suede boots in toffee

Day Vies, I am really loving your style and all your outfits. I am finding it hard to believe that these are your transitional outfits as they are so nice and well-fitting!

I am noticing somewhat of a uniform (although your outfits don't look repetitive at all) of tailored v-neck (color) layered over white, with a tailored bottom, with some pretty jewelry and perhaps a statement piece (e.g. the scarf in this case). Am I correct, or am I generalizing too much based on a few? Just trying to learn ... as you dress kinda how I want to dress, in many ways.

Love your point about capturing the feeling of a pin rather than copying piece for piece.

Torontogirl - I think you've got me pegged. I like tailored polished pieces and I generally don't feel my outfit is completely unless there's some article of clothing providing structure somewhere. I love a statement somewhere too, whether it's color or print. I think it's a matter of knowing what I like and what works for me. I like crisp, vibrant color combinations so white is usually my go-to but if it's not available I go for very high contrast.

Deb - I have temp assignments for now. Not a new job. I've suspended my search for now -- to preserve my sanity. It really doesn't make sense to me try to take on new job and a newborn in the same year.

I absolutely love how you've taken the inspiration and made it entirely your own -- suited to your climate today, your situation (beautifully expecting and freshly washed hair in uncertain humidity and temperatures), and your body type. I love your idea of using the Pins to inspire looks as I rarely have the pieces to copy Pins. That scarf really makes the outfit pop and your hair is the best accessory (sorry if it's not your friend today, I just love it!) Is that cardi meant to tie or is this a secret DV trick?

Jeanie - nope this cardi was meant to hang straight down. I think the tips come down to about mid thigh. It was always a little big on me (now not so much ;-)) but I got the idea to make it into a wrap top when I saw another woman I knew casually do the same with a similar top.
