WIW: Another not fab outfit

We went out to dinner and then to a performance of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. They were incredible! However, I snapped this picture right before we left. I noticed my pants looked too big and baggy, but we had to go. Also, I thought maybe I should have tucked my shirt. Anyway, ignorance would have been bliss. Do you think the white stands out too much? I think I need new white pants. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

I know what you mean about outfit ignorance sometimes being bliss. I think your pants are a little big - you've lost weight, you mentioned, and it's showing Not sure about tucking in the shirt - I am not a tucker at all . It may have only served to highlight the looseness of the pants- which you didn't want. Is it maybe the casualness of the outfit for dinner and a concert that bothered you?

yup, ignorance can be bliss, on the other hand as i have found since i started to record my outfits this year, a picture is worth 100 words and helps you to up your game....a couple of suggestions...the pants are on the looser side, which i don't mind, but i'd try a crisp cuff to give them a little structure. i don't think i'd tuck, but i would try a semi tuck to show some shape in the middle

I have a hard time understanding good fit but I wonder if you rolled up your jeans a bit and wore them more in "the boyfriend style," the bagginess might be a benefit instead of a drawback.

You need new pants that fit your newly svelte self, hon! A properly fitting pair of white jeans would be great on you.

How do these pants fit on the backside? If they are saggy and droopy back there, donate them in good conscience. If not, some experimenting with rolling and styling them as loose fit makes sense. You can certainly get expert advice here on how to try and make that work.

As for last night, I'm sure you looked better than 90% of the other patrons. Your top half, which is what most people look at anyway was awesome, as are those cool shoes!

Did you take those pants out of my donate bag?

I had the same situation recently: got to concert in white pants I'd proudly hemmed to cropped length, only to realize they were baggy and unattractive.

I don't feel like white ever stands out too much. But then, I have a sugar eye for white jeans, trousers, and so on. No specific suggestions for new ones for you, sorry.

When shopping I'll throw anything white that looks like it will fit into the cart, and try it on without being invested in it looking good. This method means I've ended up liking silhouettes I wouldn't otherwise have tried.

I like the advice from Kkards, Mac and Ryce, but I wear my white pants a bit baggy and roll the legs. I like the idea of trying a semi tuck. Have you tried Kut Frim the Kloth and NYDJs brands? I especially like the Kut Catherine boyfriends.

Lisa and Angie, you might be right about being too casual. In Jenn's thread about going to the symphony, I mentioned how our philharmonic advertises on tv how people wear western boots, etc. This crowd did seem dressier, though. I wonder why that was? Was it the music - Bethoven and Tchaikovsky? I probably would have felt better in my charcoal corduroy pants.

KKards, Mac, I've only worn these pants in the past with a cuff, but I thought it would look better without. Guess I was wrong! Thanks for your input.

Ryce, thanks! I don't feel svelte, just not quite so blobby anymore. I do need some sleeker white pants. I think these did look baggy on the backside.

Minimalist, that's funny we were in the same situation. I'm going to try a lot of white pants and hopefully one will work. Thank you.

Joy, these are Kut Catherines. In the past I've worn them with a cuff. Maybe they should be relegated to super casual events. I cleaned out my closet and found a pair of NYDJ black jeans that fit. I'll try them for white jeans.

Shedev, thanks! I lost some weight and my middle doesn't get in the way as much, but not to the extent that I feel "svelte." Maybe I need to size down on this same style of pant. And not wear them to a symphony performance, even in this casual town.

Oh, my Catherines are ...not baggy. I would wear them to a festive-casual improvisational music event, but probably not to symphony even though general dress culture is very casual. The cuffs are sewn down on mine.

White jeans/trousers are an item I happily store now-too-large sizes of. Just not this one experimental pair of white finewale cords.

Minimalist, my outfit was too casual made worse by pants that were too big. I need to find some nice looking *slightly* dressier white pants, and some white jeans that just fit better.

The top half looks fine to me, but that and the shoes would look more formal and more seasonally consistent with darker pants. The top doesn't look that baggy and I like it untucked but with the loose pants the silhouette is not as flattering as it could have been.

I think the pants do look a bit too big but could be styled as BF style (I'd roll and maybe belt w/a semi tuck) for casual days. I do agree with Lisa and Angie that this outfit is maybe a bit too casual for the event. However, I think slimmer or more structured pants would automatically look dressier in the same outfit.

ETA: my (dark blue, not white) kut Catherines, which I deliberately bought more fitted, are TWO sizes down from my normal denim size. (I'm always 1 size smaller in KUTs in general.). Mine are also a stiffer denim than many other colors of the catherines were though, which helps in the structure department.

You know, the performers, if they looked out into the audience, could probably only see you from the waist up, at most. And better someone in baggy casual pants, who appreciated and enjoyed their work, than someone in a ballgown who was bored.

I tend to wear looser clothing (too many EF items together) when I'm chronically tired and in pain. So, no side-eye from me on that front!

Good luck and lots of strength and patience on the white-bottoms hunt. There's a lot out there that's very discouraging. I expect to try on 20 pieces to find any one that works well enough to buy.

Isabel, yes, the top half and bottom half look like they're in different seasons. That's probably what I found jarring.

Diana, I have fine wale corduroy pants (almost like velvet) in charcoal that probably would have looked better. I would have had to wear different shoes due to their length, though.

You look great in the top half. I am thinking rolling the cuffs of the pants would help. As others have said when you are sitting down no one sees your pants.

Style Fan, thanks. I think you're right about sitting. However, we walked quite a bit that evening, with my bottom half in full view.

I just ordered several pairs of NYDJ pants from Nordstrom, mostly white, jeans and slacks. This used to alarm my husband, but he's used to me returning what doesn't work out. Fingers crossed..
