WIW: Animal!

Hi Fabbers,

As far as patterns go, I still quite like animal print and that's about all I have now in the way of pattern in my wardrobe.

It's has been too cold for this tunic but I got it out today to wear and see how I feel about it. It's about three years old but I think it's still ok. It's a nice piece to layer with and for when I don't feel like solid black.

Layered it under my grey drape vest "thing". I think it worked.

What do you think? Does the tunic still work for me?

Definitely! I think it looks current and very much you. I agree that animal prints, perhaps the snake print versions in particular, are great for adding some texture to the wardrobe.

Oh, I do love animal print, especially in those tones. But, not so sure about this particular item for you. The colour suits you, the style seems fine, but to me there looks to be too much of it, both in the body and sleeve length. I know oversized is in and maybe my eye hasn't adjusted yet, so just ignore me if you think 'she just doesn't get it'!!

I think the print is great - the shirt is too big, the sleeves are at you knuckles and baggie overall. You do drapey flowy incredibly well with clothing that fits. The tunic is too big not just oversized to my eye.

I think this top is still fab on you, and the pattern is great. I like it best without the "vest thing." I don't mind the sleeves long because the fabric looks drapey and not heavy or bulky. Can you roll or scrunch sleeves too?

Frannie, thanks for your thoughts:). To clarify, the tunic actually fits well and is not at all oversized. It fits on the shoulders and just skims my body. The sleeves are long but it appears to be in the design (which I must admit I like)and the sleeves widen towards the wrist. It is a nice silky fabric and surprisingly the sleeves don't get in the way in movement. I guess I am really wondering if it fits my style aesthetic? I probably prefer it layered under a shorter asymmetric topper:)

I like the tunic a great deal. It has an almost "kimono" feel to it with the wider sleeve. It has a quiet elegance to it.

I prefer it without the drapey vest over top because (in part) the greys seem to be competing and the drape interferes with the details of the top. But the colour issue may be monitor related. I know that this has happened to me a few times -- the greys, mauves, and taupe tones don't always reproduce accurately on screen and IRL this may have a different effect.

I like the tunic, but do think the sleeves are too long, Debs. The Kimono-esque nature of the top needs a shorter sleeve to my eye. It doesn't look fashionable, if you know what I mean. Just that the sleeves are too long for your petite height. If the sleeves were very tapered - Rick Owens Style - the length would not be a problem at all. FWIW, that's my opinion, and hope it makes sense.

My first thought was that it's very fun to see a pattern on you but I wish the sleeves were a little shorter. Also the drapey vest is so elegant, love it.

I have just been pondering the sleeve issue. It didn't come up last time I posted this tunic and I now recall I would often wear it with the cuff folded up. Essentially cutting the black trip in half and shortening the sleeve to a better length. I had completely forgotten. Hopefully that will solve the problem:)

Frannie, thanks for popping back. I was going to PM you today as I wanted you to know that I really appreciated your comment. Photos can be tricky and sometimes don't always convey what we see IRL and I really appreciated your thoughts. I can get a bit one eyed about things so differing view points are really valuable to me.

Deb, how clever of you. I do this sometimes with sleeves that are too long (frequent in my life) and it works especially well when they are trimmed like this. Perfect solution.
