WIW and WI-almost-wore: Bootie help needed

I wanted to wear this snakeskin sweater because it's supposed to be slightly cooler today but still not super cold. I was having shoe problems though and DH was no help at all (not that I expect him to be).

#1/2 - Tried rolled ankle pants and booties. I'm wasn't sure about the look and DH said it looked a little goofy.

#3/4 - Switched to grey skirt with booties. Once again I wasn't sure about the booties. Do they need to be more refined or more fitted at the ankle? I have really small ankles so these are the best I have right now..

#5 - Same outfit with tall grey boots. This is what I ended up wearing because I wussed out on the booties.

Questions: Did #1 and #2 look ok? Is there something that would have looked better?

I'm not sure about #1/2, but then I never figured out the booties and rolled pants look for myself. I just wear them tucked. I think the booties in #3/4 look good! I'd wear them like this. Although the higher boots are lovely too.

I really love both the booties and the tall boots with the skirt outfit! They look great on you and that sweater is so fun! I don't think the first outfit is bad at all, but I understand and often feel something "off" when I try them as well. Maybe showing a sliver of skin w/a slightly higher roll, or wearing them unrolled? Maybe it's the contrast? I'm a bootie beginner too, and I love them, but can't always figure out why sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, so hoping Angie and others chime in!

I think you got the roll just right, you just need to let your own eyes adjust to that look. Because it DOES take adjusting. But the tone of the pants and the tone of the booties are perfect for pairing. IMHO.

I like both boots with the skirt. I think it just depends what kind of look you are going for - the booties are a bit more funky and fashion forward, the tall boots are more elegant.

I really like the booties with the skirt! Nothing wrong with the tall boots version, but the short boots version looks more up to date to my eye. I love this look on the entire universe. Just not me and my poor, short little legs, that fear stumpification.

I like 1 and 2. actually I think all of these looks work for you.

I have been playing around with these bootie, pants, and skirts looks too. AND what I am finding is -----it is a personal thing. Different looks work with different people, the leg length, width of pants, length of skirts, height of booties, etc. It is a matter of proportion, contrast, and the style of the outfit-ie. casual, more dressy , etc. rolled pants just always seem casual to me.

For me I am finding looks I like best are pants just a wee bit above tops of booties, and with dresses or skirts no bootie height above ankle bone. But this is me and with my somewhat bowed legs, fatter longish legs this is more pleasing to me. And I do not wear tall boots with skirts unless I wear opaque tights as I have little fat pouches above my knees. the opaque tights hides them.

My DH thinks rolled jeans looks goofy too. I showed him some on pinterest and he just said -so--

#1 - you can add a belt and semi tuck to lengthen the leg line. Perhaps hubs will like those proportions a little better.

#3 - Your booties work just fine with bare legs.

Thanks for the advice. I think part of the problem with booties is my eye just isn't used to them yet with bare legs and ankle pants.

DH generally doesn't comment on my outfits unless I ask him directly. He didn't say anything until I took off the pants and said I wasn't sure about the outfit. That's when he commented that it looked a little goofy. To be fair, booties with rolled pants and skirts aren't a common sight around here. I've at least seen the look on the internet although I'm not confidant (obviously) that I'm getting the look right.

Sarah, I especially like 3/4. You have great legs and the booties look fantastic. To me, they don't look too big at the ankle although you do clearly have a delicate ankle. I think they look great.

I think booties and ankle pants are difficult unless the pants are really skinny, to be honest. And I wear a lot of booties and a lot of ankle pants!!!! I might have rolled one more time to give a bit more skin, but I agree it can be tricky.

The skirt though - slam dunk.

I really like all 3 outfits, Sara. I still haven't got the rolled pants thing down for myself so that I'm confident, but this looks great on you and you seemed to have them rolled just right. And love 2 with the booties and skirt coordinating so well; seems so very modern and chic. 3 is great, too, and I can see why you picked this outfit to wear, but any of these would behave been fab!

Angie, Maybe you can do a rolled pant tutorial on your blog. I need help with this look as well Sarah, you rock all the looks!!! Where do you live that none wears rolled pants and booties?

Maggie - I live in Albuquerque. It takes awhile sometimes for things to trickle down here. Plus the weather is just starting to get cold enough to wear boots.

My eye has not adjusted to the bootie/rolled pant. Pictures always look so bottom heavy and my eye is drawn to the feet. Of the pictures, 3,4,5 look the best to me.

I like both of the skirt looks. I'm less sure about the trouser one, but I'm a definite novice so no help there! I think you look just stunning in 5.
