WIW: 9.22 To Welcome Autumn - YouLookFab Forum

Today for the first day of autumn it is a bit cooler. I pulled out some real oldies, the newest piece being the clutch. The burnt orange EF linen blend shell and cardi are still around from my heavier days and I will probably pass them on soon. The weight is perfect for early fall.
Skirt is a thrifted light wool JCrew. The resin necklace belonged to my Mom probably from the days when plastic was a new exotic material. You have seen all of this before, some with the EF rhubarb colored lantern dress.
I 'm not sure the semi-tuck is working here, at least the way I did it. Your suggestions are appreciated and comments on anything about this outfit. Do the pointy toed flats (thrifted years ago) look modern or frumpy? I feel like I should have removed something, like the necklace, but wanted to wear it.

I think number 2 is so good! I love the pumps. You have to be careful with them, but I think the clutch modernizes them, so one can just enjoy their beauty. I love fall colors. I like the necklace included. I am just not 100% sure on the proportions in 1.

Day, I was on my way out of the Rack when this clutch caught my eye. I've used it to pull together brown and orange with my "rhubarb" dress.
Scarlet, I feel like the cardi in 1 is too long for the skirt and see the proportion problem too.
I forgot to ask...are the shell and cardi together too matchy?

I love the semi-tuck! Not really feeling the cardi with the skirt. But I love a nice twin set so I don't mind the shell and cardi together with a different bottom. Maybe some BF jeans? Or cropped slim pants?

I'm not 100% sure about the shoes, but I have a poison eye for high-vamp shoes with skirts so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Mary, I will definitely try the twin set with jeans. Maybe the high vamp shoes will be better with jeans too or trousers with a wider leg? Or should the shoes be resonated?

I would love to see those shoes with some pants! I love the woven texture! I would totally try them with BF's. And I forgot to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE that resin necklace! And the bag!

Gorgeous. I love all of the items and the proportions and colors.

The resin necklace is über-fab! It reminds me of Marc Jacobs pieces.

I also love the clutch.

As for the shoes, they are not frumpy. However, they don't look exactly modern to me either. The pointy-toe of 10(?) years ago was snipped/squared at the point, as these shoes are. However they don't look bad or frumpy! Just keep in mind I am super particular about footwear so -- grain of salt time.

I love all the colors for fall. Super necklace.
I have a lot of trouble making dark loafers work with skirts even though they're modeled a lot. I get too close to the LLBean mom look or something. I think it has something to do with proportions as well as leg-line.

I agree try the loafers with pants--that might really work. Especially skinny pants scrunched.

Also, they might work with a flared or flippy skirt better. Or, if you wear them with that skirt, try something more zippy up top--that's why I think the non-cardi outfit works better than the twinset, because with the cardi look you have all kind of "classic" pieces in one outfit. What other funkier tops do you have you could play with?

This is my "narrow style filter" as Angie would call it, so it works against me in being brave to try new things.

Mary, Denise, and Unfrumped, I'm happy that you like Mom's necklace. It got lots of admiration today worn to a big local art festival, especially from an artist from San Francisco making similar jewelry
Denise, that's a good point about the shoe's snipped toe. Unfrumped, I'll definitely try them with pants, and the easiest will be scrunched skinnies. I hope they work. The shoes are extremely comfortable. I don't think I have any floppy skirts for these as they seem to young. As for funkier tops, I have a leather moto jacket and the open weave light grey sweater I posted a K/R for recently. There's also a couple of sheer silky shirts and metallic sweaters. I'm not sure if these will help. Maybe a distressed jean jacket? With "fur" collar?

The outfit looks great without the cardigan. I love the necklace and clutch. I agree with Denise's assessment of the shoes, but I will add I do love that sort of braided leather even if it is not the big thing right now.

Joy: The necklace and clutch are amazing accessories. They are elevating the whole look. The other elements aren't as trend forward, but isn't that often the best formula? Classic pieces with fresh items? Your colors are amazing, and the perfect choice for the first day of fall.

What about a half-tuck, or a tuck that a little bit "bloused?" Just a though.

As for the shoes -- I have several pairs with this snipped toe. I might not select them in a store now, but I've decided that, since the look is still refined, I won't waste comfortable, good shoes and spend my money to replace them this year. I think yours are actually helped by the high vamp, which makes them look like a popular slipper shoe.

Joy, I love your fall colour pallete, esp nr 3-as first 2 are a bit too light, I guess your outfit looks much deeper than 1-2, which I still like!

You really know what colors work for you, Joy. Great silhouette, too. I imagine it is hard to avoid overwhelming a tiny frame with many types of items. I happen to like the second pic best, without the cardigan. I'm finding cardigans a challenge and it seems that they can be super flattering or frumpy--yours isn't, but it's not quite enhancing the rest of the outfit. The shoes and jewelry, on the other hand, I love.

With the cardi, it's very classic, but a little... meh. Maybe scrunch the sleeves instead of rolling? (Or would that stretch or damage the knit?)

Shevia, I have a sweet eye for that woven leather too. It also breathes and stretches a bit to conform to your foot I've found.
BethAnn, I will try a little blousing with the tuck. I think I was hoping that the semi-tuck would help make the outfit more modern. I think you are right about the shoes. These may get me by for now. I find long pointy toes difficult to walk fast in without tripping but these are ok.
Lyn, the first photos do show the colors lighter than they really are. I had a light shining right on me to take the photos as the sun wasn't up yet.
Mochi, yes, this cardigan in particular is now overwhelming me, isn't it. I sometimes cross it in front and belt over it for a more fitted look, but it can be fussy to keep in place.
LaBelle, thank you for your comments. Those sleeves are too wide on me to stay scrunched, but your thoughts reminded me of Angie's tricks for scrunching. I should revisit them.
