WIW 9-1 to 9-3 Using New Upload Feature

Hi,

I am very excited to try out the new upload feature. The weather has bounced around a lot lately, and so have my outfits.

#1 and #2-Denim Dress
While I was looking for a denim shirt this summer, I purchased a denim dress instead. I'm not sure the flare is a good fit for a pear though.

#3 and #4-Mint Prep
This sweater is a bit old and maybe a tad too preppy for me now. What do you think?

I think the dress looks great, and the belt accents your tiny waist. The sweater outfit looks a little dated to me. I love an argyle sweater...maybe try it with a denim pencil skirt and some boots? I LOVE the cascading cardi outfit. Gorgeous! Like the top on its own too.

Love that last picture. So fresh and crisp.
I think I agree with Boof that the argyle sweater is a bit dated. I do think you can bring it into the decade by jazzing it up with a vest or something though.
Great denim dress. You might be right about the flare. Can you taper it down to make it more straight?

Love the dress! I like the simple style. It looks really good on you. I also really like the white denim outfit. The top is lovely. I like the color and they style of the cardigan--it just looks a tad long on you. Have you tried belting it to bring up the length?

I'm not so keen on the argyle outfit. The jeans look great but the sweater looks tres preppy. I remember this style from high school--I think if it wasn't pastel, I'd be okay with it. I had pastel overload in H.S. Just my 2 cents.

To my eye the denim dress seems a little too short, given how full the skirt is.

I love the argyle sweater outfit, and I'd pop a short jacket or vest over it to update the look a bit. Or maybe do a bright contrasting tee underneath instead of the collared shirt. I have a drawer full of 'em and I'd try every color until I found one I liked -- I'm thinking magenta or bright yellow or orange or lime might liven up your argyle. And I'd change the shoes to something less contrasty, like maybe a colored sneaker.

And the last outfit is simply divine! I wouldn't change a thing!!

Fabulous looks, Lisa! The denim dress is perfect & belt is a great accent. I don't have a problem with the argyle sweater per se - argyle is a preppy classic and preppy NEVER goes out of style in my opinion. I do think you could update the look - go for a cute pair of flats, maybe in red or purple, maybe patent, wear a ruffle shirt under (I remember Ana once did this & it looked divine) or maybe just a cami instead of a shirt. I like your last look - with & without the cardigan. I think with the cardigan, a pair of straight or skinny jeans would be even better.

I love the cardi outfit (great cardi, think I mentioned in another post!). I am not a fan of the second outfit with the argyle sweater, but agree it would look better with a skirt, or with the sleeves rolled up/scrunched, jeans with a funky belt and some heels instead of sneakers.

And the last top is amazing!

I have a few skirts like the first dress that have that extra flare on the sides. If the fabric is drapey, then it's not so prominent, but with denim, it does flare out a bit. The pockets make it tricky, but I'd bet you could take that baby to the tailor and have her/him take some of that flare outta there. It's a shame to donate the dress, as it looks so great on you otherwise, and seems like it would be very versatile for fall.

I'm not a huge preppy fan, so I'm not too objective, but if you're not feeling it, then pass it along.

I like the navy cascading cardigan, though it is long. Maybe it will shine in the fall and winter, with some dark jeans and some high-heeled boots? Sort of chic and cozy.

I happen to like everything about the denim dress. I actually think the A Line emphasizes you small waist. It's a keeper for me as is. I would try something like this, shoe wise, for added umph ( not that it needs it... but anyway):

Regarding the sweater. I would not just give up on it yet. I happen to like preppy. I would just 100% commit to it. What about something like this:

I am not sure about the skirt or the belt, I would personally pick a pair of well fitting black trousers. I will make sure though that the collar, sleeves and bottom of the shirt peek out.
Even some black skinnies and flats can work if you wear the sweater over a longer skirt / tunic.
I like the last outfit as well. I think the cardigan is a little long but not overwhelming!

LOVE that denim dress and belt FAB.!!
I also am a fan of Argyle and have a few sweaters too....try pairing with a black/denim pencil and jacket or throw a jacket over it with your jeans...just to tone it down and make a subtle prep"

Thanks everybody for responding, there's some really good advice here I will have to try.

The denim dress just inched away from the donate pile. I do like the pockets. And it would transition into fall. I'll give it a few more tries and see what everyone thinks.

I love argyle, but I own quite a bit of it. Almost too much to be honest. I do like the idea to tone it down with a vest or jacket and add a skirt to the mix. I have some argyle in smaller prints (the diamonds are not QUITE as large) and may try those with these ideas.

Boof-Thanks for the idea about a skirt and boots for the argyle, I'm going to try that with some of my pieces.

Queenie-I might take a run to my tailor and see how much it would cost to tone down the denim dress's flare.

Has anyone done this type of alteration? Is it an easy one to request?

Kellygirl-We think alike, I've tried belting the long cardigan, but all it did was cinch in the volume. This cardi has a lot of volume to it, and it was too much fabric to bunch up with a wide belt. A tiny belt, really didn't work. I'll keep looking for a belt to try though, thanks!

MaryK-I recently (finally) picked up a pair of teal converse. Maybe I'll try them with the argyle.

Shana-Thanks for the idea to try the flowy cardi with a skinny jean. Perhaps that's what I need here, to tone down the volume create more contrast with this cardi.

Re: Tailoring. My tailor charges about $15 per seam ( This is overpriced NYC after all). That will cost you about $30 in these parts, if they take the dress in from the side seams.

Love the denim dress, looks like the perfect fit to me and almost any color shoe could give it an extra pop! I like the argyle, and my thought was to add a jacket and you are set. The cardi did look a little big for tiny you, but maybe a belt over could help. Love the last outfit, too!

You've gotten some great advice. I love the freshness of the mint color and like the ideas you've been given to update the argyle.
I've got an older longer sleeveless version of what is probably the same Gap denim dress. The other details look the same. I've kept it because it is the easiest piece in the world to just pull on and look put together. Your dress will be great with boots for fall/winter. You could wear a tee under it and leave some of the top buttons open. I don't mind the fullness on you but it would be better reigned in a bit.
