WIW 4/21: Angie's Column of Denim formula, turned upside down!

I found this fantastic floral jacket at the consignment store last week for $25 and was super excited because I know some of the higher-end labels are showing bright-on-white floral jackets for spring.

After my success with the bright floral blouse and gray pants and jacket, I decided to pair the bright floral jacket with something relatively subdued, and decided to adapt the Column of Denim With Spring Accents formula that our brilliant Angie posted back in January. Angie showed a plain blazer with patterned shoes, and I turned it upside down and did patterned blazer and plain shoes. Was super happy with how it looked for a trip to the hair salon on a Saturday morning!

Denim shirt: Target (boys' dept)
Jeans: Levi's (custom, hand-me-down)
Yellow patent pumps: Madden Girl
White/multi floral blazer: consignment
White tote: eBay
Red/orange beads: thrifted
Gold oversized watch: Target

Fabulous! I have to be honest and say I'd probably leave off the necklace though. Somehow it seems unnecessary with those fabulous pieces. Great jacket!

It's hot but not a mess! This looks great. And you have made that jacket work. I wouldn't have looked twice at that jacket, but you have really worked it. The denim makes it look very current and of the moment. I can see you working quite a few combinations with this jacket.

I like the idea and the theory works, but I have to span as I think the jacket is a bit groovetastic for the column of denim? Maybe the necklace is throwing me off too? You know I love you, I just think this jacket with one of your usual professional color bomb outfits would thrill me more.

Luv your adventurous spirit as always, MaryK. However, the print of this jacket makes me think of "Laugh-In" or the set of "The Dating Game."

I'm wondering how it would look with a column of white instead? I do like the yellow shoes to bookend the jacket. You probably have a pair of shoes to match any color in the jacket. THAT is FAB!!

You know, I am actually kind of having trouble with the jacket, but maybe I am just not fully embracing the floral trend. Since it is so bright I would be interested to see it with more of a light/white based outfit rather than dark blue. Oh, I see AJ said something along these lines too.

I do think maybe the necklace might be a little much. Should have gone with a groovy pendant instead, I think!

Hubby says it looked better in person than in the photos, and I kind of agree. I love this jacket and you will definitely be seeing it again, and I will absolutely try it over white or light next time!

I agree with AJ that white denim would be totally awesome with that jacket! It really needs to be the focal point. The yellow shoes bookend it beautifully. Like Deborah I wouldn't have looked twice at the jacket on the rack but then I'm sort of chicken and still taking baby steps towards more bold and fashion forward looks!

I had to add....would the jacket work with either your yellow raisen halogen skirt of a white pencil also?

Mary, I absolutely love your style, but this time I'm with AJ and JJsloane. The jacket is really fun and the shoes bookend it very nicely, but I'm sorry to say that the print gives me bed linnen associations (SORRY!). I fully believe your hubs that the outfit is better in RL. And I really envy your bold and bright style and how you do ALGO like noone else!

Dating Game or not, I love the jacket! I had some sheets with a print like that in 1970 (said without any irony btw).

I like the outfit. What about pairing with skinnies to make it a little less retro? Like white skinnies suggested by AJ.

I think the jacket is a great fit to your happy, extroverted persona. I think the issue *if any* is on the buttoning of the blouse and necklace. Since the jacket is so playful and relaxed, I think an unbuttoned blouse sans necklace, is a more congruent choice. But then again, there is beauty in the juxtaposition.

I think the jacket is great for you. The styling is less than stellar. How about a silky blouse, ie Equipment and white skinnies.

I love the 60s-70s vibe of that print, MK. It's the first thing that struck me. I can picture it with a simple white shift dress, big hoop earrings, bright bag, and a groovy pair of heels! And don't forget your "That Girl" hairdo. You are the fabbest of the fab.
