WIW 3/4 and 3/5: yellow sweaters (and a proportion question)

Yellow is my happy color. So happy, in fact, that when I found the yellow turtleneck on super-sale at BR ($15 final sale, last one in the store) I bought it despite having another yellow sweater, and one from BR.

ETA: the new sweater is in photos 2-3; the sweater in photo 1 is the original BR yellow sweater I already owned!

Yesterday, I went office-y: olive skirt and pumps (photo 1). I actually ended up adding brown tights (not shown) as I was running out the door, which made it feel bottom-heavy. Otherwise I was very happy with this outfit. Necklace is another sentimental one - bought on a vacation with Ma Adorkable - and I thought the amber and turquoise brought my glasses in a little more.

Today, I'm teaching, so I can dress a bit more casually (photos 2-3). This red dress is another one that's a few inches too long, but I've been too cheap to shorten it when I've been wearing it this way for years. (I know! I know! Just shorten it already!)

I can't decide about the proportions. The sweater's not a petite, so it's on the long side. I can fold up the welt (photo 2) which shortens the sweater quite a bit. Which looks better? Should I be wearing a shorter skirt?

It probably doesn't help that turtlenecks in general are not the most flattering look, but I love this golden sunny yellow so, so, so much! (Also, these shoes are stumpifying - but again, they make me so, so happy!)

Love the sweater in outfit #1. So interesting and it looks good with the olive skirt. I like #2 with the shorter sweater for the second outfit. I prefer my skirts above the knee so I would shorten it, but maybe others will have a better take on the skirt length.

I have that same BR sweater! But in brown. I love it, it's so warm and cozy, and so different, isn't it? People are always commenting on it when I wear it. I would never be able to pull the yellow off like you do, what a happy color. You look great.

As for proportions in 2 vs 3, yes, #2 looks better to my eyes - it's that "skirt length" thing again. I'm afraid this t-neck isn't skirt length. That said, since the theme lately seems to be sacrificing a little flattery for style, I might suggest trying the t-neck over a pencil skirt. Lately I am liking the long top over pencil skirt look.

@Shiny: Which one? They're actually both from BR! And both super cozy. I don't actually think either shade is particularly flattering, but I love it so much I don't really care. I think you're right that it looks better tucked, and will probably try it over slim pants, a slim skirt, etc. and see how that does for me!

On a personal note, I am dealing with some family sorrow right now (the loss of a beloved cousin), and since I can't be there with them, I am wearing a lot of joyful color as a way of keeping myself together and getting through the day.

Love #1. Agree the turtleneck is a bit long. The proportions in #2 look ok, but does it add too much bulk, or do you find yourself fussing with it all day to keep it tucked under properly? I'll leave the length question to someone who knows what they're talking about. So sorry about your cousin. Keep wearing your happy colors.

Adorkable, so sorry to hear about your cousin. I'm glad you are able to wear some cheerful colors to help you get through your grief!

As far as the outfits go, I prefer #2 over #3, but I wonder if the problem isn't so much proportions as it is that both of the items (T-neck and skirt) are quite voluminous? Maybe they just don't play well together. I like the look of the sweater (is it a different one?) paired with the pencil skirt in #1, since the pencil skirt provides a contrast to the bulkier texture of the sweater. Do you have a more streamlined top that would work with the fuller skirt?

#1 is a great outfit, top to bottom. For the new sweater, I also like it shorter. I do think the visual heaviness of the sweater completely overwhelm the thin, flat sandals.

I meant #1 - see recent WiW pic below. I'm doing a head-thunk now because your WiW here makes me remember i have an off-white wool high waisted skirt that would be just perfect paired with this sweater. Now it is March though. Maybe I can wear that combo in the next week if this polar vortex holds out?

So sorry for your loss... sending hugs and sympathy. We are dealing with an emerging family situation as well, father-in-law went into the ICU earlier today. Maybe it seems weird to others, but I think YLF would understand, how when stressed and life gets challenging, fashion is most excellent and welcome distraction,no?

Sorry about your cousin adorkable. I am glad that the colorful clothes are helping you get through the days.

As about your outfits, I am completely in love with the sweater in pic 1. Just gorgeous! I like the proportions of pic 2. Have you tried tucking/semi tucking this sweater? Also, midi skirts make me feel frumpy if I wear flats. If I ever try the midi skirt, I would probably wear booties to keep the outfit looking current. Do you think you could wear pointy toe ballets or loafers in the flats category?

It's a beautiful skirt and I gave seen lot of petites wear that length to perfection. So I am not entirely sure if you *should* shorten the skirt.

I think the first picture looks great. The other one seems like things don't go together in a cohesive way. The sweater seems long so might be better with pants or over a pencil skirt and I wouldn't pull it down so far. Then turtleneck sweater and sandals seem seasonally confused, maybe try the shoes in one with this sweater. Length of skirt looks great, try with a tucked top. Not sure I am right about any of it, but these are things I would try when I look at the photos. Oh, almost forgot, I love the happy colors together, yellow and red look fantastic. Sorry to hear of your loss.

The brick red thing is a dress, not a skirt, so I can't tuck anything into it. I like the idea in theory, though!

The first outfit was definitely better. The second one ... well, it was only $15, so if I give up on the sweater, it's quite all right.
