WIW 3/28: all the pink and black

Last night, I took DP to the theater for his birthday (only two months late ... but I bought the tickets on time!) and we got all dressed up. He cleans up great, but I failed to take any pictures to show you so you will have to take my word for it this time.

There's nothing like a dress that makes you feel great about your body. I have a few dresses of a similar shape. If only I could figure out how to wear them to work!

I suspect the shoes and dress together is a little much, but I'm curious to see what y'all think. In the future, I will almost certainly keep them separate.

I love the dress but I find the shoes distracting. I don't think it's because of the two patterns so much as the extra colours in the shoe.

I actually like the mismatched florals, very current. Hope you had a good time. The dress might work for work with a denim jacket, tights and flats? Or a cardigan?

You look great! That is a pretty dress on you, and like you say, very flattering with your body shape. I like the shoes and dress together! It's fun, and the glasses bring in the blue/green color found on the shoes. Also I mean, they look like the exact same flowers - a multiflora type wild rose, pink with a yellow center, so I know I wouldn't be able to resist

Also (if available) a white or teal/green bag might tie the shoes in even more.

For making more bombshelly dresses work appropriate, I'd try blazers and cardigans, possibly tights to counteract the above the knee length. Definitely closed toe shoes - oxfords, boots, flats, pumps. It might not work with all of them, but it might with some?

Smashing dress! Why can't you wear it to work? It doesn't look too bombshell from the pic, just fitted and flattering.

I love the florals as well, because there is a break in-between the dress and the shoes to my eye it is beautiful.

I would agree with that. It's quite amazing you found shoes that are a perfect match for that dress, though.

Both are very pretty (and the dress looks perfect on you), but I personally would wear them separately. I may be biased because I gave up buying shoes in colors other than neutral (the traditional definition of neutral that is ;-)) a few years ago. Since I'm petite and gained more weight than I like, I found out they don't do me any favors. They actually didn't do me any favors even before the weight gain. With dresses and skirts I always go with shoes in a nude color (to my own skin, of course), with heels as high as possible, and with fronts as open as possible. That gives me the most mileage. All kinds of elaborate straps half-way up to your knees may be all the rage, but if they're not flattering on ME, it doesn't count. I don't strive to look like a trendy clown.

If you are going floral .. Go full on .. What the heck! I really really love this outfit! With the shoes! Such a fun number indeed! I don't think there's a right or wrong when it comes to matchiness! Our very own goldenpig comes to mind! Each one has their own taste, so rock it if you like it!

ETA: and why wouldn't you wear this to work? Such a lovely, flattering, non cleavage baring ... Not short dress! Would blazers on top make you feel better?

That dress is made for you! Lovely! Actually, I think you could add a floral bag, too, if you had one with coordinating colors. To my mind, mixing three patterns cannot be mistaken for anything but deliberate pattern-mixing.
I can also see the dress for work, paired with a jacket or cardigan.

If the outfit doesn't look better, even if the attempt is obviously deliberate, does that make any difference to the casual observer...? Most people on the street don't care about "deliberate pattern-mixing." They haven't even heard of it. They go by what is pleasing to the eye and most of the time that's balance and harmony. Our daily lives are not runaway shows.

This dress may be my favorite thing you ever posted! You look amazing! Love your partner's logic - I can see my husband saying something similar.

If you wanted to wear it to work, I agree with Neel. Throw a blazer over it and you're probably good to go. You could also add black tights if you wanted.

The shoes are a bit more than I would wear personally, but I think the pattern mixing is fun, especially for a night out.

That dress is gorgeous on you. I quite like it with the shoes. It's pretty clear you're wearing that way on purpose. I think your funky hair and glasses make that evident.

I'm also curious about why the dress feels too bombshell for work. Maybe you appear more va-va-voom in it on a side view? Sometimes I know that is the case. From the front, you look hourglass, but not intentionally provocative, if you know what I mean. The dress is sexy but also fun and also ladylike.

Love the shoes with the dress. It's a really awesome combo. I would agree that for work I wouldn't wear both pieces together. IMO the suggestions for adding tights and a topper (cardigan, blazer, denim or even a fabric moto jacket) would really make it a more work friendly dress. Enjoy it however you decide to wear it. It really does suit you well!
