WIW 3/14--Inspired by Dani

and her latest WIW post. I challenged myself to fashion my white cardigan (which I rarely/never wear.) I ended up wearing the skirt--I'd forgotten this top is too short for skinnies. Oops. A couple other WIW's from last week. Seeing my BF blazer makes me think I should become better friends with my cardigans ; P

As a fellow IT, I always have trouble with white outer layers. Maybe a long v-neck white cardi so the length and neckline doesn't highlight the shoulders? I'm not sure.

Luv every detail of #3! Where is that black top from? Is it a recent purchase?

No matter what you wear, you ALWAYS look so fabulous! You have such a fit and athletic body - do you work out a lot or maybe you were an athlete, or both?

@AJ: I definitely agree about white--but I still love it. I'm at peace with my shoulders for the most part--as long as I don't have the icecream cone silhouette going on : ) I think the boots help even it out.
@Una: I did. I tried the regular in 8--that's all they had in store. The body fit very much like the grey jacket in #4--too big in the bust and waist. I think the 6 would fit but I'm beginning to doubt whether blazers really fit my style after all. I think I'm a pretty conservative dresser in general and fear this is going to make me look even more so. I'm on the fence--it's still in my cart.
@chouette: That's such a nice thing to say! I don't consider myself an athlete anymore. These days, I'm just trying to hold the line (not get any fatter.) I lift three days a week and try to get in at least 4 or 5 cardio sessions--run, bike or skate : )

I'm so glad you posted this, Kelly! I have a cream colored cardigan that I haven't worn because I had no idea how to style it. I absolutely love #2!!! Watch for me ;o}

Kelly, you always look so beautiful and very polished.

So, I don't think you should give up on that gray BF blazer. I think you look awesome.

Idea: Take blouse from 1/2, BF blazer, jeans, MM spring boots (you got the sandi ones, too, right? or even your red Susies), and a belt on the outside of the blazer (but maybe don't button the blazer?) Or not.

I think AJ is onto something with the v-neck idea for the white cardi; maybe unbutton one button on the shirt and move the collar over the cardigan so you have a faux v-neck going and some darkness covering part of the shoulder line. Love the peek of lavender in #3! I see nothing wrong with your BF blazer in #4, it's cute

@hbaber and Aida: Thanks for the affirmation on the blazer. It's not something I wear often so I'm not used to the look on me. I do feel polished in it--just not sure it's the most flattering kind of layer on me. I will keep trying : ) hbaber, I love your ideas and will try them! Aida, I tried to open up the neckline of the button down but it keeps closing up! Going to have to get out the iron!

@AJ: I meant to tell you--the black top is from Express. It was one of the faux wrap knit tops that Angie blogged about awhile back. I got it at the end of the season sale.

I have the same problem with mine, they never stay opened! But I also don't iron, so I probably can't complain too much

Aww, thanks Kelly Sorry I've not gotten to this thread earlier. Monday and Tuesdays are crazy for me. I think you did the white cardigan proud!

I like Aida's idea of opening the shirt a little (maybe a cami under or 2nd base cami to prevent overheating) and putting the shirt collar over the cardigan. Either way, I love the color combo. I think it just proves that the devil is in the details and it takes more work to make a white cardigan look fresh and current. Love the flower pin and the cognac belt! You look so polished!

One more question: did you try the belt over the cardigan as well? You have such a great figure, I was just curious what it would look like!

I think you should size down to 6 in the blazer. It has a lot of flex. I think it could look fresh with your casual outfits, but don't get it unless you love it!

I think the blazer looks great on you! And all the others look great too! I don't even think i own a white cardigan....>.> Or maybe even any white outer layers.....I shall have to think on this.

I do prefer the white cardi with the skirt over skinnies. It's a block style shape which does not add a curve to the skinnies outfit. I noticed the same thing with the blazer. I don't know about the IT shape, but for my pear shape, I started favoring blazers with a tiny bit of curve in the torso, this helps bring out my waist area and those blazers always seem to get better praise here on YLF (in my WIW posts).

I really love you in white! You wear it really well. The bootcut look is great too, and I think the BF jacket is cute.

@Dani: You made me re-think my cardigan and I had fun doing it. At least it's not an orphan anymore--I think it has potential : ) I think someone with a waist could belt on the outside and make it work--unfortunately, that person is not me.
@Una: I am definitely considering the shrunken blazer--I just wish petites were in-store. The main thing holding me back is having to do the multiple size order (6 Reg, 6 Pet., 8 Pet.) and the inevitable returns.
@Lisa: I definitely think a nipped in waist would be more flattering but I figured I could get away with a looser fit in this BF style.
@Nicole and Jonesy: Glad the blazer gets a passing grade. I'm going to keep playing with it!

I'm late to this post, but I like 3 and 4, even tho I know you don't like the blazer. FYI, I have the shrunken blazer in petite and I LOVE it, just like Una - it feels very "trim". At least you can return to the store, eh? Do you have the Gap Give and Get 30% off promotion?

Thanks, Sarah! I do have the Gap promotion. If the blazer is still in stock, I'll probably give it a try. Are the sleeves cropped when they are unrolled? (I was surprised that the sleeves in the regular were normal length for me.) I wish there was some easy way of searching for yours and Una's WIW's featuring this blazer!

Kelly, here are my WIWs with the Gap blazer. Nope, the sleeves seem to be a normal petite length (although I do have short arms, mind you).
