WIW 2/13: Navy and gray and pearls (another copycat)

I've had this look on my Pinterest for months but the weather hasn't been cooperating beause the skirt is a summer-weight linen blend. Today the forecast is for 82F so it's time to bust it out!

Navy skirt: J Crew
Lightweight gray sweatshirt: American Apparel
Tweed jacket: Banana Republic
Faux pearls: J Crew via eBay
Black pumps: Madden Girl
Black tote: Coach

I never get tired of the naughty thrill of wearing a sweatshirt to work! And I love the look with the pile of pearls! Thanks for looking and commenting, if you are so moved!

You look great! I have a flared black skirt that I was thinking of purging but maybe I should give it a try with a grey sweater (I don't have a sweatshirt) and pearls and see if I like the result.

I really like this with the jacket. However, I'm not crazy about the proportions of the top with the skirt. I think it gives you that 50/50 body cutting line. The inspiration photo has a longer skirt, so it gets closer to the 1/3 2/3 proportion that is more pleasing.

So pretty! I had the best time flipping through your pinterest boards last night. I would love it if you would do a post on how you find outfits to copy. I saw that you had a lot of outfits for your cobalt blazer and your mustard skirt, for instance. I'm assuming that you did a search on those items to find the pics. Where do you find most of your pics, and how is they're always such a perfect match for what you have in your closet?

Carter, sometimes I search for a particular item on Pinterest (like the cobalt blazer), but more often I just look at what pops up on my feed (or whatever they call it -- the photos from people I follow) and pin what catches my fancy. I do find that mostly I pin outfits that I think I can come close to replicating with items I have or might acquire. On the other hand, sometimes I just pin things because I like the color combinations or the proportions or whatever. I guess it's really more of an art than a science.

Elizabeth, I see what you mean about the skirt length. But... this is the skirt I have and I try not to make the perfect the enemy of the good-enough.

Amy, I'm not sure what you mean by side-shaping. The jacket is a bit fitted and when it's zipped it fits pretty close to the body. I got it marked WAY down a couple of months ago and feel like it was a great acquisition.

I have a question about the skirt you're wearing. I'm having a hard time telling from the picture, but it is a flowy skirt like the model, or is it a heavier fabric? If your skirt is heavier, what do you think would happen if you substituted a skirt that was flowier like the model's, even if it's in a different color? You're obviously not outside twirling around, so I can't tell what kind of movement your skirt has. :^)
