WIW- 1st denim shirt outfit

I'm not convinced with this outfit, is the long shirt and a line skirt too much?
I tried tucking the shirt in then belting over the top to hide the skirt/ shirt join but i think i must have lost a bit of weight because the skirt is sitting low down and the belt didn't hide the join. The pencil skirt hunt regains momentum i think!
I added rose pattern tights, patent oxford type heels and an Angie esque pearl necklace x
Edit- popped the collar but it kept flopping down!!

I love how you are experimenting with the denim shirt - so inspiring! I agree, it would be great to see the outfit with a pencil skirt, something with less volume on the bottom. Another idea might be to try a different belt. Hmmm. It will be interesting to see what everyone says.

I think this outfit has possibitlities. can you tie the belt so that the ends aren't hanging down so low? They keep pulling my eyes down.

I feel like this *almost* works - I like it, but I agree with laura that a pencil skirt would probably be perfect.

Thanks for the honest answers. I think i'll stick to shorts and slim fit clams with the shirt till i find a pencil skirt *i wonder if bootcuts would work? hummm*
I have a pencil skirt and a couple of pairs of black skinny fit trousers on order form M&S should arrive Thursday hopefully one of them will work fingers crossed x

All items are great, just not sure that they are perfect together. I agree with Laura and Tricia that a pencil skirt would work really well with the shirt, and likewise a different top would show this skirt better.
Its frustrating though when you buy something don't have all the components to start wearing it. I am very guility of doing this!
I hope you manage to find the perfect pencil skirt!

I'm actually digging the outfit. It's very dramatic, with the obi belt echoing the flare of the skirt.

I like the outfit too. I think you might be able to pull this off beautiful if you added something on top to balance out the skirt, such as a colorful silky scarf, or several strands are fairly chunky necklaces?
I do think it would also be lovely more tailored bottoms. I am interested in seeing the results!

cciele and susan i have mixed emotions on this outfit! It looked good in the mirror but not so good in the photo. I wore it to work anyway (got 2 kiddie compliments on it though i think that was more to do with the "cool karate belt" humph!!!) By the end of the day i kinda felt for want of a better word a bit frumpy. In fact the last few times i've worn that skirt i've felt that way. I'm prefering slightly shorter ones instead x

I think the shirt with the obi belt looks fab! You need a shorter, straighter skirt with this type of shirt I think, Louise. Have anything like that?

Louise - I love that shirt on you and the obi belt is cool!

If you go to the more business wear sections of H&M they have some black pencil skirts that sit just above the knee (similar to what Dawn bought for her suit) which might work.

FYI, I don't think you look frumpy at all! I can see raising the hemline a bit though.

I love the OBI belt on this type of shirt. well done. How about a more straight skirt or jeans under it?
