WIW 10/3, A swing & a miss - YouLookFab Forum

I was originally not going to post this outfit because after looking at the pictures the next day I was pretty unhappy about it. But I figured someone could learn from it.
I was inspired by this styling of an Acne Studio cardigan by LaGarconne.

I was going to a matinee performance of The Waterfall. A Thai musical brought to the US. I really liked it; but I guess the reviews from the Pasadena run are less than glowing.

So anyways back to the outfit. I had the cardigan. Apiece Apart high waisted crop flared jeans. A Marc by Marc Jacobs polo shirt. Aldo mixed color snake brogues.

I think if I try it again I need a boxier cropped top, like my JCrew woven tee. Maybe my 6397 shorty jeans. Or just ditch the idea entirely.

I think it's the white polo that's throwing it off, so you're probably on the right track to try a different top. The shoes and sweater look great together.

The shoes are amazing-- glad they worked out. I get where you were going, but something about the top and bottom are a bit off. The coat needs a bit more support. I hope that the musical was wonderful!

Agree with missvee. The polo top seems maybe too preppy for the rest of the outfit.

That sweater is awesome! Such a great color for your coloring too! I really like this outfit on you overall.

You are high on carcinogenic perfumes from the theater... That is a cute outfit! i suppose a neater-tucking polo would be sharper, but really... hold your breath around that perfume(!)

I like the shoes and pants together. I did notice that there is much more space between the pants and shoes on your inspiration pic. Could that be part of your dissatisfaction?

Pants were much more loose fitted and a bit drapy, more cropped and wider leg, kind of culottes? But the cardi is a 100% hit of course:-)

I like it. Nice coat, nice pants, nice shoes. Polo collar is OK but skews the whole look into very casual territory. You're probably right to think it'll look sharper with a woven shirt.

Change the top and you're good to go.

The sweater is gorgeous on you. With a few tweaks I think you'll get the look you are after. Love the sunnies, too.

I love this outfit except for the top....it needs to be either more dramatic or more subdued. I think this is just too "in the middle" to make it come together. Could you re-try the outfit with some other tops?

I think it looks great! I could see it with a boxier top, but I like it as is! I don't think it's a miss at all! I love the sweater and the shoes together!!!

Hmm, what bothers you here? I rather like the buttoned up polo under the cardigan, but am not sure about the pants length - doesn't look cropped or flarey enough here for me, although the overall cut is great. I am curious what you think.

Visually I think this works extremely well. Personally I have trouble with polo shirts.. in my mind they are not a 'fashion' item, so I would rather see a crisp button down but seriously this is very cool. What didn't work to your eye?

I think both of your ideas are great--the boxier woven tee or shorter jeans. But I also like the outfit as you wore it. I'm glad you decided to post it and share your reservations about it, because looking at the outfit, I wouldn't have thought of alternatives. I would have just thought, hey, another cool outfit! I love the brogues with this outfit, and your sunglasses are so amazing with it. I don't think anyone seeing you at the event or on the street would think any of this look is "a miss."

Hmm I think it's something to do with the polo+long pants (almost too norm?). This is a cute look, just doesn't have the same vibe as the Pin. I agree that a boxier cropped top with shortie jeans should get you something much closer. LOVE those sunnies by the way! And the shoes are super.

I think it's fab copy and amazing you have " the parts".

I like a drapey T with those cardigans, with s more open neck or even a v, so I'm not in the button- down camp. Maybe even a soft bow blouse but still with more open space at the neck. I think that more skin showing, which Angis often equates with " structure", balances the amount of fabric and volume in the rest of the outfit.

I agree that a boxier top would be great to try. This has potential! The polo just makes it feel more preppy and less playful than I associate with you. I really dig the cardigan and pants.

I like Deborah's idea of a crisp white button down shirt. I'm sure a boxier top would work great too but I like the idea of the business shirt to go with the oxfords. Kind of has a cool - nerdy appeal. Accountants gone fashionable.
