Today is the last of our mini spring heat wave (*sniff*), and while it's about as warm as it was yesterday (about 85F) there's definitely a cool breeze coming in.

These lightweight roomy shorts should be perfect for the PNW's mild summers, but because of the rusty color my brain just can't seem to wrap itself around the idea of wearing them outside of fall. I feel like the best way to get over that is to force myself to wear them, get my mind going on more summery ideas! So for today I went with the easiest way to inject some springiness: lightweight white layers + gold accents.

I immediately thought of this sleeveless top because I love how crisp white+blue+orange looks in summer. Of course today's orange is more rusty than the bright orange I'd normally wear, but I figured the white and blue would help crisp things up regardless of what orange I added. In addition it has a springy looking floral, bonus! If I were actually doing stuff outside I'd wear this sans cardi with a semi-tuck, but since I'm inside today I chose to fully tuck and definitely need the extra layer. I liked the soft look the top and shorts had, so I grabbed this white cardigan instead of my initial idea, my white blazer which is semi-cropped and cotton; I'm realizing that I would really like to get a longer soft white blazer to compliment this cardigan for days I still want soft but need more structure!

From there I decided to go full-on matchy with the gold accents (shoes, purse, and jewelry), though all of the golds are different (cracked leather, sequins, and brass metal respectively). I also suprised myself by not wearing my rose-gold watch for the first time in, like, 1.5 years. It's been a no-brainer daily jewelry piece since I got it, but for some reason today I took a peek at my other watches and just had to pull out my white watch to wear. The metal watch would work just fine here, but something about the white leather feels better. To finish the look off I went a little heavier on the mascara and layered two sheer bright orange lipsticks to get a soft neon orange shade.

I'm happy to report that these shorts are feeling sufficiently warm-weathery today! Now to get working on some other ideas for them, although the weather to wear those ideas probably won't resurface for a good while
