Hi! I'm new to the blog and the forum, but a bit of a browse makes me think that it's a great place to get inspired to cut down on my wardrobe and unnecessary buying, but to use what I have more effectively.

I should have introduced myself earlier. I have been fascinated by this site since I found it 4 days ago, and asked for advice on what to wear for my upcoming nuptuals. I am soooo impressed with your blog, Angie, and love reading everyone's comments. I am in my early 50es and fairly tall AND large sized. (5'10" and size 18 or plus 16W. My biggest problem is my non-existing waist (suspect I am a tall apple) and the fact that I am too tall for a lot of the plus-sized garments. On the plus side I have slender quite shapely limbs. I cannot believe how inspiring you all are. So many cool fashion vibes and fresh, honest advice. I do not usually participate on websites but this could be my new place to "hang out". Oh, yes, I live in Vancouver, Canada and will be moving to Toronto in the fall. I am on a long term quest to lose weight but I have decided I need to look good NOW, not just wait till I have lost the weight. I think that may be a more encouraging and thus more successful way to reach my goal. So I have decided to update my wardrobe and get inspiration from some real women. I think I just found what I needed. Thanks.

Just joined- first post. Long time lurker but very interested in all the closet topics.

Hi all! I found this site a few days ago and have lurked around a bit, and I guess it's time to jump in! I'm twenty-seven, married, and I have the sort of job where I have quite a bit of leeway in what I can wear, which is awesome since I love fashion! I really love not being restricted to business casual as my personal style has something of a girly, quirky, retro vibe. I live just north of NYC and commute into the city daily for work.

I'm working on becoming more discriminating in my purchasing decisions--basically I need to flip the switch in my brain between "That thing is pretty, so I will admire it and be glad it exists," and "That thing is pretty, so I need it." Not every pretty thing is a thing that screams ME and will fit into my wardrobe. So here's to an awesomely curated closet full of things I'm obsessed with and actually wear on a regular basis!

Hi, I've been following the YLF blog for a while and thought it was time to explore the site further. This is by far the best style blog that I have found to date, and I love how skilled Angie is at finding and interpreting fashion for women of all shapes, sizes and styles. Being in New Zealand i'm on opposite seasons to most here, but with the joys of the internet and international shipping that does mean this is a great, but dangerous site - the Boden flower organza skirt might just be on it's way to me now and I wouldn't have known it existed if I hadn't seen it on the blog.

Hey there, I'm Neta.
I am a nutritionist by day and a blogger at night.
I love fashion!! It's the first thing on my mind when i wake up, and all day long. I try to dress and act accordingly through out my every day life.
I open a blog were I can share my love to fashion and food style: http://tlvlife.blogspot.co.il/

Hi, another newbie here. Long-time lurker and short-time member. I decided it's time to
join the party since I love the site so much and I found I can no
longer view members' photos unless I become an active member, so here goes... This is the best
style blog I've seen, especially for women of a certain age who can no
longer follow the latest 20-something trends without looking ridiculous
(and often pathetic). Even though my taste tends to run that way, I'm
trying to dress more age-appropriate, yet not frumpy. I hope to learn tons from this site and particularly
look forward to absorbing tips from savvy members!

Another long-time lurker checking in! I'm enjoying playing with style and fashion after being in quite a rut for a long while. I've been home raising my four children for the past 10+ years, and a year or two ago realized that I had fallen into a deep slump of constant loungewear and still dressing as if I were a 20 year old college student <blush>. Since then, I've been reading style blogs and trying to find my way in redefining my style as a stay at home mom who is approaching 40. It's been a bit of a challenge but also loads of fun! I've learned so much from Angie and all of you here!

Hi! I'm Kayte.

I used to own a blog called "Real Girl Wardrobe" that chronicled my daily outfit choices for ONE ENTIRE YEAR. I took a photo everyday. The purpose was an inner experiment/challenge: is it possible to wear everything in my closet?

I was supposed to ditch the clothes I didn't wear…That didn't really happen. Instead I bought new clothes…a lot of them.

Needless to say I have a bit of a hoarding issue when it comes to clothes. Until recently (yay…getting older!) my weight was pretty consistent. I've put on a few pounds around the middle and my boyfriend just opened a food truck. I am definitely learning how to dress again. I would say working out and losing weight is a priority but it isn't and I want to be realistic.

I also just finished my first year at my "big girl job" post graduate school. Although my office is casual, I can be as dressy as I want. Picking up some new style tips would boost my confidence a bit.

I'm 5'1" and roughly 130 lbs. Cardigans are currently my go-to cover up but I just got some amazing advice from a post I wrote for jacket options. I prefer anything but jeans - those keep getting bigger and size so…

Thanks for having me!

Hi! I've been following YLF for a little over a year and am just getting the courage to join in. I have learned so much from Angie and everyone else! The last few years have brought some big changes in my life. I got divorced, moved to New Mexico from the Midwest, and have transitioned from working in a lab to full time teaching. As you can images, all these changes have forced me to make big changes in the way I dress! Unfortunately, I don't always feel like myself in my new more appropriate clothes. So, my ultimate goal is to define my personal style so I can build a wardrobe that helps me look like a professor but still feel like me.

A toast to 1000 greetings!

New member here. Have been enjoying the site as I try to reduce my wardrobe to items I really love. Looking forward to participating!

My name is India Morrow. I live in a small town called Monett, Missouri. I'm planning on moving to Islamabad, Pakistan soon. I'm in love with a great guy named Muhammad Iqbal. He is my baby. I have two gorgeous dogs, a half Boston terrier, half corgy named Iris and a half Chihuahua named Alfie. I love clothes and fashion. I almost always wear skirts. My signature makeup look is black winged eyeliner, black mascara, and red lipstick. I love classic black high heels, black skirts, and tank tops. If you want to know anything else, just ask. <3

Hi I am new to the forum but have been browsing through the YLF postings over the past few months. I am almost 50, married and have two children (ages 20 and 16). I am 5'9" and my weight ranges between 128 lbs and 134 lbs. depending on the season. I have soft autumn coloring. I think I look best in small regular patterns or solid colors. I don't wear black or white.

I have always been athletic, and participate in running, swimming, hiking, snow shoeing, Pilates and Yoga. I am a physician, but work in a non-traditional setting, with children. Comfort is important in my work, so I have primarily worn jeans (With a sweater or dressy t-shirt) to work my entire career, but lately, I have decided to spice things up and have added pencil skirts and blouses to the mix. I have found that I am loving this ensemble just as much as the jeans. I also love dresses, and have found that I purchase fancy dresses, but don't have many opportunities to wear them so they sit in my closet looking pretty but unworn. I have a HUGE collection of sweaters (It's sweater weather here in Central New York from October until almost mid April). I started to look at fashion blogs to help me hone down my purchasing to those items that I truly love, need, and will wear again and again. My closet is overly full and needs to be pared down desperately (This obviously includes the sweaters and the dresses). The posts I have read so far on YLF are helping me define my style so I can decide what stays and what goes. My goal is to get rid of 1/3 of the clothing in my closet, and then only to replace items with things are totally in keeping with my style, comfort and happiness!

Hello! I'm Megan, 29, single mom, living in Asheville, NC.

I was referred here by my mom (triciaw) and good friend Sarah (SarahTheWhite). I've never been a fantastically good dresser like the two of them, but I'm attempting to better myself at last.

I recently started getting shipments from StitchFix and buying quality items at stores instead of just the cheapest options. I'm still figuring out my style and have a long way to go, but I'm hoping I can get some help from the friendly folks here

Here's a pinterest board for a peek at my style so far: http://www.pinterest.com/meganleestudio/clothing/

I'm still new here though I signed up over a year ago. Trying to see if I fit in here. I mostly shop thrift. I know what I like whether it's considered dated or current. I might start a blog on here to just write and see what happens.

I'm Gitika, originally from India but now living in New York, attending grad school at Columbia. I am interning at a fashion/tech company called Twice in San Francisco for the summer and thanks to the experience, I now feel so much smarter about my shopping habits! I did get introduced to YLF through my internship but love it so much that I will continue to browse through even after the summer is over.

I'm not that much of a fashion expert, but I do like being put together (picked it up from my mum who wouldn't let me get out of the house wearing flip flops in India!). I think I own too many of the same types of clothing and will continue to do so I think! I'm super petite so not everything fits that easily. You'll mostly find peplums, skinny jeans, lots of white, orange and red, stripes, fit and flare dresses and colorful scarves in my wardrobe!

I like international affairs, playing badminton, board games, a nice bar (sometimes too often in a given week!), traveling to a new country or two every year and dancing.

I'm 51, 5'2-ish, 118-ish, kind of a muscular hourglass tending towards pear. I wear scrubs 75% of the time at work and the very casual side of business casual the other 25%, and mostly nice workout clothes on my off hours. I'm kinda struggling with age-appropriate dressing when I am called upon to wear anything else.

Hi, I'm new here. I work in an office in the DC area. I'm usually in business casual or workout clothes. I have been reading YLF for awhile but only recently discovered the forums. Excited to participate in the forums.

Hi, I'm 52 still trying to dress like I did in my 20's and 30's.(Which wasn't very well in the first place) Although I am fortunately the same weight, my body has shifted a bit and also my tastes and style. I'm looking for some new ideas and funkiness I can add to my wardrobe but still look grownup. Whatever that is!! ;-0

HI! I'm 41, have two kids and work in health care. Half of the week I'm in scrubs. The other half, I wear comfy mom clothes to drive my kids from place to place. I'm hoping to kick up wardrobe up a small notch.

I'm Pat and I'm new to the forum. When I turned 40 a couple of years ago, my body changed -- I gained about 15 pounds and found myself in a style rut. Nothing fit anymore. Last year I discovered style blogs. I've since managed to go back to my original weight due to a strict lifestyle change and now I'm at a point where I feel like picking myself up style-wise. I hope to inspire and be inspired by like minded women here! :).

Hi! I've followed this blog for a long time but have finally decided to delurk and join the forum. I'm 38, work in finance, and have 2 young boys. I've finally lost most of the baby weight (you know, 7 years later) and am getting rid of a lot of clothes in my closet. I want to replace them with clothes that fit my age, my lifestyle, and most important, make me feel good. A tall order, I'm finding.

Looking forward to getting ideas from this site, including clothes appropriate for work and at home!

I've been reading this blog for about 3 or 4 months and I've decided to "delurk" as well. I'm not usually so good at commenting on stuff, being the introvert that I am, but I'm going to make an effort because I really like this forum and the blog and I want to support it. Also, I'm looking to refine my style and my closet.

I'm 42, married 15 years, no kids, 2 cats (Vera & Woody). I'm 5'5", size 24 and have no plans to really change that, just focused on making healthy choices that best that I can. I'm a full time project manager for a small/medium size financial company by day and a part time massage therapist on the evenings and weekends. I also go to lots of ska and reggae shows as my hubby is a part time musician. I also like to thrift and decorate and other creative type things.

I love clothes and I'm trying to quell my clothes hoarding tendencies and work toward more of a capsule wardrobe in which I wear all of my clothes, they are all quality pieces that I like how they look and feel on me, and I'm able to wear in different ways with different items in my closet.

I would describe my style as mod/boho, or what I've decided to term as mobo. I look to combine my love of 60's and 70's style. An example of this would be a batik shift dress in a mod style, which I might wear with leggings and booties and a long statement necklace. I currently don't have this elusive dress, but I'm looking for it and I'll sew it up myself if I need to. I should say I'm a novice sewer and I find it hard to follow a pattern or make things I actually like to wear, but I'm still trying.

This seems like such a cool place! I'm Tova, 18-year-old geeky rising college freshman in the US. I've labelled my style urban princess, and I'm working on ramping that up now that I have the opportunity to leave my close-knit high school and reinvent my image. I love luxurious things, reading and writing, and spending too much time on tumblr. I'm basically a walking Pisces stereotype so anything you read about Pisceans probably applies to me.

Hi all, I found this website when searching for something else and was so impressed that I had to joint right away. My name is Denise and I'm a Home Ec teacher (yes, we still exist) in a suburb of Vancouver, BC, Canada. I love fashion, but don't get to succumb to its charms as much as I'd like. I also sew, and try to make some of what I love to wear. It's what helps convince me not to buy something, as I can just "make it myself". Keep in mind that I often don't end up making it.

I love how positive and friendly people are on this site. I describe my body type as an inverted triangle fighting a losing battle with an apple. I generally know how to dress for my body type, but I know there's so much more than I can learn, and more risks that I could be taking with my style choices. I don't know how I'd describe my fashion style (even though I ask my students to do so every year). I love colour, and wear lots of dresses. That gives me an opportunity to show off my shoes.

I'm looking forward to being a part of this community (now to see if I actually take part, and not just lurk!)

Hello all, my name is Marisa. Newbie here and longtime lurker. Looking forward to interacting with everyone.

Hi, I'm Rachel and I'm new to this site. I've just started getting into fashion and actually caring about what I wear again within the past few months. For the past 10 years, I've been stuck in the jeans and T-shirt rut of a stay-at-home mom and I'm yearning to break free! I hope to learn a lot from you all and I'm so glad I found this place!

I'm a long time lurker (~2 years I think), and I finally decided to register because I miss seeing members' WIWs. I work as a lawyer in a large law firm in Boston, and my weekends are spent chasing my two girls and, rarely, going out with my husband. I'm particularly interested in posts about maintaining a functional closet and keeping track of trends so my non-work style doesn't get too dated. My natural style is classic/tailored, so I've never had trouble shopping for work or for really dressy events, but I have a hard time spending money on my weekend clothes. Angie's "capsules" have been particularly helpful in making me buy and put together outfits for activities like kids' birthday parties.
