Hello

Been a lurker for quite some time now and thought that I should join. I'm slowly purging my closet and trying to simplify my style. Hope to enjoy my time here.

May

Hi, I've read the blog for a long time but never got around to joining. I thought it was about time! I'm a self-described magpie and prefer a relaxed, urban boho sort of style - but I'm also into Ren Faires, and as such, have more than one corset.

Currently trying to clean out my closet as I keep acquiring without purging.

I'm Alex, and I just joined today. *Waves* I'm 28, married with kids, and I'm finally finishing up my undergrad in speech pathology. My style is mostly modern classic, but I often end up relying on a boring jean-sweater-scarf combo because it's easy and fast on crazy-busy mornings.

Nice to "meet" you all!

Hi all! I'm Jen, 30 years old and Canadian. I'm trying to figure out my body type but I'm pretty sure I'm hourglass with pear tendencies (or maybe inverted triangle?) I've gained a bit of weight over the past couple of years but still have a defined waist, with wider shoulders and hips (hourglass) but now also have more weight on my thighs and in my tummy, so I'm not sure.

Anyhow, I have 'warm spring' colouring (auburn hair, light green-blue eyes) and am currently obsessed with olive jeans, anything coral, royal blues, and mustard yellow - as can be seen on my Pinterest style board.
I'm excited to have a place to get feedback on outfits and colours from a like-minded community!

Hi everybody! I'm Allison and I just joined today. I'm 35, 5'11" and not entirely sure now to describe my personal style! Casual/classic, maybe? I work in a casual/creative field and am able to wear jeans most days. I like dark jeans, interesting flats, simple tops and wrap dresses. I love earrings and scarves but can't remember the last time I wore a necklace.
I live in Ontario, Canada, am married and love dogs, yoga, travel and running! Nice to meet you all

Hello all. I've just discovered this forum and just joined. I'm 33, 5ft5 and hourglass shaped. My style is fairly edgy with lots of patterns and clean cut lines. I live in The Philippines where it's always hot and very humid so I have to dress for that. Lots of rolled up khaki trousers, loose tops and chunky jewelry during the day as I teach. Casual wear is various shorts with vests and tshirts or else jersey dresses or skirts. Looks like I've found another way to spend my free time!

Techie, 40, 5ft4 from Mumbai. I dont consider myself a newbie here since I have been lurking in the background since years. I admire the forum and its range of style. Nice to be here.

My choice of style is modern classic but more often than not, it ends up with whatever helps me hide the pear shape.

56, red hair, blue eyes, apple shape with tendency to rectangle. I am classic style, simple lines are best. I just recently discovered I can wear dresses after all, now that I've lost some weight, which is really exciting for me. So, I've been shopping and purging my closet with a vengeance. So. Much. Fun. !!

I meant to reply here first, but it took me a bit to figure out the comment box only shows on the last page of replies.

Hi! My name is Kaelyn. I've been reading Angie's blog posts for a while now, ever since a friend on a Facebook group recommended the blog, and I thought I'd join in the fun. I'm a writer, hopefully going to be a student again this fall, a wife, and a mama to a wonderful cat.

I'm really looking forward to getting to know everybody here. This seems like such a positive, knowledgeable, and fun community!

I started reading the blog when Angie and Greg spoke at our Women in Communications meeting a couple of years ago. After losing 50 pounds and gradually gaining most of it back, I had pretty much given up on style. The focus on dressing the body you have instead of wishing I was a different shape started to make me think. Plus I was thrilled to see Angie wearing "my" Sam Edelman snakeskin booties.

Having just turned 50, accepting myself for who I am and working with it is an "it's about time" epiphany.

A few details. I'm a writer. I am a solo-practitioner and work from home. My husband is fantastic. I spend a lot of time thinking about and working in my garden. My red hair isn't original, but suits me so well that people are surprised to see my photos from when I was blonde.

This is my year to build my fitness with the mantra of "fit at 50." It's making my pear-shaped hourglass figure more hourglass and I'll worry about the weight later.

I still hate to shop especially for clothes with the result of more boots and scarves than slacks, skirts, tops, and dresses (maybe even combined).

Hello! My name is Amy, and I just read (and really appreciated) the How to Dress the Pear Shape Body, 2014 article. To echo others' comments about it, I have read plenty of advice about this topic over the years, but was really happy to see a more specific and detailed list of observations and tips. Looking forward to browsing through this site some more! Thanks!

Hi all! I'm brand new to the site and keen to join in the fun. I've been lurking for a while now, and decided it was time to join the gang.

I really enjoy fashion and have classic, conservative style.

Hi, I'm another long time reader who has finally bitten the bullet and opted to participate. I live in Sydney, Australia and really enjoy the more general style posts given the inversion of seasons in the Southern Hemisphere.

I'm in my late 50's an IT Supervisor in a very business casual environment. My style is jeans or khakis with a t-shirt or tailored button down shirt and a blazer or cardigan. I'd like to up my style a bit. I've got about 20 extra pounds on me and have been bicycling a couple of days a week to work to tone up. Its a 15 mile ride each way, so I keep a change of clothing at work and take a shower.

I'm looking for ideas for stylish athletic wear to get me to work and business casual with a twist to get me through the day. I have quite a bit of jewelry and scarves that I don't seem to wear very often. I love shopping and tend to buy multiples when I find something I like.

Hi I'm Mel. I'm work-at-home faculty for a university. Our children have grown up and left the nest so I'm trying to focus on bettering myself these days. Now, to figure out how to do that...

I'm not much help in the fashion dept. I'm afraid. But I'm always willing to share my opinion if it's wanted!

Hi, I'm Kerri. 35, 5'4". Mother of 2 small kids and full-time Scientist. For years I biked to work and still work most days in the lab, so my wardrobe is full of pants (legacy of the biking to work) and currently limited by the Health & Safety rules of closed toe shoes/legs covered. Within those limits, I like to wear comfortable, stylish, modern clothing. Lots of tailored pants and colorful tops. Accessories are becoming my friend. I have been reading Apartment Therapy for years and enjoy working on design for my house, but realized that it was time to spruce up **me**! I was delighted to find this blog and this community!

I've been lurking forever! I love the style tips here for "normal" people instead of the crazy but unwearable things on other fashion blogs. I have a travel and shopping blog and I just started blogging about travel shoes and clothes, packing tips and lists so I thought it's time to join the community and get some ideas on everyone's favorites!

I live in NYC and my real job is a an attorney, but I love to travel so I can usually be found planning my next vacation! I love shopping and am obsessive about fit which is why I love this site so much-- I've learned so much just lurking here,

Hi, I'm 30smthng freelancer in a creative and mainly men dominated field, with lots of responsibilities. Struggling to balance many things in my appearance, not to look too strict, too relaxed, too sexy, too matronly, too casual, too dressed up... you name it, and still look stylish and professional, while I could work for days in my pijamas. And trying not to forget to accentuate my feminine side when the occasion is right.
Talking about feminine side, I think I am hourglass, D cup bust, 176cm (5feet9inches) height, 63-65kg, long arms and legs. With these features slightly alluring outfit easily becomes bombshellish. Maybe that's why I dig androgynous looks. The one thing about me that changes frequently is my haircut, years ago I went throught all range off colors, now I keep my natural color (ash blonde with arriving greys), but experiment with short cuts - rather boyish undercut today.
And not to forget my daily friend - prescription glasses, occasionally contacts.

Hey y'all. I'm Amy, I am about to turn 30 in July. I am from Dorchester, in Dorset, in the UK. I joined this forum looking for inspiration and advice. I am soon to go on holiday to Turin in Italy, and being timed well with my 30th it means I can go and buy a whole new Summer wardrobe in a couple of weeks!

I'm trying to grasp the fact that I will never be slim (I had 4 kids in my 20s, and I just like food/hate exercise too much!!) and that I am in fact, getting older....and that I need to change my style.
I still feel gravitated towards "teenager" clothing - (so my partner says) so I am trying to find a medium place between the punky 20 something I used to be, and the Mum of four I now am - without feeling frumpy! I like to try and be slightly feminine but I really am not a girly girl, and favour a pair of jeans with trainers and a leather jacket over a dress with heels and tights any day - having said that, I like to wear dresses with leggings.

I don't really know my colouring - I would say my skin is fair without being pale, it's kind of yellowish....and my hair is always changing colour but right now it's a kind of light auburn. I am short, only 5'2", a size 16 if I am truly honest (I have sadly slipped away from a hard worked size 14 recently) and I think I have a pear shape (although I have recently discovered that we are now moving away from your basic apples and pears, and changing to inverted triangles, skittles etc....VERY confusing!) anyway, I have straight shoulders, small breasts, a slightly defined waist, with a bulging tummy, larger hips and bum, and my ankles are defined.
Nice to meet everyone

Hi, I've been reading the blog for a while and decided to de-lurk. Early 30s, short but long waisted, work in editing/publishing, and trying to put together a somewhat more tailored business casual wardrobe that works on my extremely hourglassy shape.

Same for me. I've been lurking so long I can't remember when I started. I do think this intro is coming at the same time that I've decided to embrace my changing style and my changing body. Due to health, I've found myself with a sudden change in body shape that I'm trying to embrace. I'm a boot, scarf and skirt gal and tend to mix structured pieces with boho. Love, love my jackets. I'm 5'9", and can fluctuate from an 8 to a 14, sometimes rapidly. I'm short waisted, have broad shoulders and am minimalist when it comes to accessories. I also may have a legging addiction!! Hello to all!

Hi, I'm new here too! I've been reading the blog for a couple of years and somehow missed that there's a YLF forum. Oops! I've just recently gotten interested in style and upgrading my wardrobe after I was finally properly fitted for a bra (went from 34D to 30G!) and realized that most of my clothes didn't fit properly, either. I'm mostly hourglass shaped with so-called "violin hips" and having trouble finding clothes (esp. pants) that are flattering and comfy. I'm hoping that the forums can help!

Hi,
I'm Emily, I'm 21 years old and I live in Sweden. I found the blog quite recently and when I found this forum I decided to sign up. I'm not really sure how to describe my style, it changes quite frequently and I often find myself finding and buying things that I initially didn't think was "my style".
This place seems like a great place to get and share ideas, and to be creative. It's really nice to meet you all!

Hi, I'm Shawna. I have been reading Angie's blog for some time and lurking on the forum a bit now and then. I have a blog myself which I don't describe as a personal style blog though I do explore my personal style and thoughts about style there sometimes. I'm 47 years old and going through a significant transition in life. Actually I'm hoping the transition period is nearly over and I'm just settling into a new phase now. I'm friendlier than I look. I'm looking forward to meeting new people here!

Hi, I am Christine! I am a technical writer, adjunct professor, and passionate metal-smith/jewelry designer. I love looking at/talking about/thinking about wardrobe and style, especially real-world style -- celebrities on the red carpet do nothing for me. As I posted elsewhere, I am facing a cross-country (US) move next month, so my goal is to evolve my personal style so that I still express myself yet don't scare the new neighbors.

Hi, I am Judy. Just joined and am just getting familiar with website and blogs. Have three sisters and have always been interested In fashion. Anyone remember the Glamour magazine back in the 1960's ? The Do's and Dont's. Shows my age.

Hi, I am Lynnette. I am 5' 8", with narrow shoulders, narrow hips, long arms and legs. Most regular length pants are too short, so I buy falls, which then need to be shortened. If I buy tops that fit in the bust, the shoulders are way too big. I am 52, and finally realizing that I need to have alterations done to look like my clothes fit.

I like classic casual, like Eddie Bauer, Tommy Hilfiger, and Banana Republic. Liked Coldwater Creek, so I'm sad they went out of business.

I loved watching What Not To Wear, and wish someone would have nominated me, but I don't think my wardrobe was that bad.

Looking forward to some good wardrobe ideas.

Hi - I'm Jen, 42 and mostly divide my time between working in an office and hanging out at home with my husband and toddler...though I've been working on beefing up the social side of life a little more now that I'm belatedly emerging from the triple whammy of getting married/moving to the suburbs/having a baby. Similarly, I'm at the point that I think my body is pretty much the shape and size it's going to be for a while - maybe some minor changes depending on how my workout goes, but the pre-baby clothes that now technically fit but don't look right due to changes in proportion? I'm trying to do something about that. And since I don't have less time and money to spend shopping than I used to, I'm trying to be more thoughtful and strategic about my wardrobe.

Hello, I am a long time lurker I have been slowly purging my closet and trying to re-inventing my previously extremely random wardrobe. I have been reading Angie's blog for several years now and am hoping to get additional inspiration from the forum.
