One of my 2012 style goals is to add more texture to my wardrobe, so I bought this Fossil kilim print satchel (sold out now...so it looks like I got the last one) over the weekend. It arrived yesterday, and it instantly felt "familiar".....like maybe I already owned a purse like this?

I puzzled over this for a while, then realized *DUH* we have several kilim rugs and pillows throughout the house. It's obviously a look I love....and now wear! Cozy and comfortable.

Has this ever happened to you? Are there similarities between your wardrobe and your home decor?

I love that bag, gorgeous! The main similarities between my home decor and my wardrobe are that I don't like ALGO and prefer color to all neutrals. I actually plan to redecorate my flat in March when my exams are over because I think I'd like some change.

Very nice. Having a bag witht the same theme as decor is one thing. I saw a lady in our town one time with a very familiar looking vest. I puzzled about it and then realized it was the same as our couch upholstery. I must say that gave me pause. I wasn't sure who was 'wrong' me or her?!

hmmm, the main similarity would be that I change color schemes in summer to pastels and light pink,,and in winter to dark red and wine...he he

Hmmm, not really. My house is very modern with bright colors. We are slowly remodeling, but our goal is all clean lines, simple, simple, simple. We have green, orange and blue as wall colors. We aren't there all the way yet, but we are working on it. Kitchen and bath remodels are costly and a pain when you only have one of each!

I tend toward neutrals with some ALGO elements, I think in my dress style. I love funny details, chains, zippers, scarves, jewelry... My look can get cluttered, trying to keep my house from same.

Yes absolutely! We have lots of autumn colours in our decor, and if you open my closet, voila! there they are again. You made me laugh about the kilims -we have several of those too, and today I saw a scarf I liked, and realized it reminded me of the carpets!

I have yellow&orange leather couches, red&green walls, very colorful art pieces mixed with classic dark wood and cream colored basics. I could describe my wardrobe with very similar words...

Well our home is kind of modern Arts and Crafts/Craftsman style (new Stickley furniture mixed in with Ikea/Pottery Barn Craftsman style furniture), so I guess that explains why I dress in modern clothes with some retro inspiration thrown in, and a mix of high and low!

Speaking of home/wardrobe convergence, did you see the pic of MaryK wearing an all turquoise outfit in her turquoise "woman cave"? Hopefully she'll chime in with the link.

GP, I would love to see your house. And I can definitely see its inspiration in your style. I am a fan of the Arts&Crafts decorating style, too. We have an old foursquare house (1915), and this decor just seems to fit.

Beth, like you my style matches my home decor style to some extent, but there are definitely some colors in my house that I don't wear a lot of IRL (green, yellow, and red come to mind).

So happy with my Fossil purse, but I'll have to fight the feeling that I'm carrying a throw pillow from home!

Guilty. When I was selling furniture I always asked what their favorite colors to wear were. It's easy to figure out what they would like best. I surround myself with colors I like, patterns I like and textures that feel nice.

That bag's ADORABLE! It almost makes me want to go out and buy kilims right now!

I get the convergence of interiors with what's inside the closet too. My wardrobe mixes a lot of ethnic pieces with fairly edgy modern Euro, in a large dose of neutrals (seas of white, ecru, grey, black) and a punch of jewel tones. My home has vintage Indian (often colonial-inspired) furniture, tribal rugs, paper lanterns, old brass pots and pans in the kitchen, cast iron... and modern Scandinavian chairs, sofas, racks, gingham, chrome fixtures and appliances, blue-and-white tiles, grey granite against a background of mostly white walls!

The difference is that I often splash colours I love but cannot easily wear as an accent through my rooms --- tomato red throw there, green-and-cream enamelware, mustard and rust French stoneware, old rose accent wall...

Here you go, nancylee! Since you asked, I dug up some old photos of our house. I would love to see yours! We didn't become fans of Craftsman style until we moved into this house. Even though it's not old, it has a lot of references to the style so we just ran with it (we picked out the Craftsman style chandelier and even the door when it had to be replaced). This was pre-kids though. It's never looked this clean or nice since, and probably never will again! The whole living room has become a giant playground and our house is a cluttered mess, but full of laughter!

So you can see why I am a big fan of modern retro in my clothes!

Hilarious epiphany! I love kilim rugs and am so happy you are paying homage to them on your shoulder. Nice to see some of that global/refined boho style you like making its way into new purchases!

The light, the light, the light! What beautiful spaces in your house. And hey, toys in the LR just add that touch of whimsy, right?

Mr Vix and I have been living in an old-for-the-West-Coast fixer (1905) for 10+ years now. The first 5 years of that spare money/time went to the house -- then I realized the house was looking much better and I was looking...terrible!

Doing DIY-filled complete kitchen and bath renovations actually inspired me to start incorporating color, pattern/print and texture into my closet. In fact I actually wrote a post that had a "lessons my backsplash taught me" section, ha!

It was easy for me to (cheat my way to several 2-word) Style Statements after so much work on the house. "Minimalist Magpie" and "Contrarian Classicist" are in full force at home and on my back....

GP, I am swooning over you house photos. Like Vix, said: The light! Those big windows are simply amazing. But I would get nothing accomplished at the desk in #5....I'd be too mesmerized by the view. Your house is much more pure Arts and Crafts style than mine, which is more eclectic with Arts and Crafts touches.

Vix, thanks for sharing your photos. I've seen a few exterior shots of your home on your website, but these interior shots are fabulous. LOVE the gorgeous table and buffet in #6. And I have a whole new respect for you knowing you sanded and refinished them yourself. What a woman! Also love your decompression zone with the sock monkey.

Wow...what a gorgeous bag, and look at all the lovely pics it has invited! GP and Vix, your houses are stunning! So well thought out and beautiful. GP, what we see of your house looks a bit more masculine than your clothing style, so maybe one reason you cherish those feminine touches in your wardrobe is because you have fewer of them in the home (although I don't mean to imply it looks like a man cave; quite the reverse, with that beautiful light and those views and your adorable kitties!)

Ah, yes...my "standing on a ladder that's standing on a roof" long weekend painting project! Only 3 sides left to go when summer arrives.

At this point I'm pretty good at painting and sanding, awesome at demo, and tiled my backsplash without mucking it up too much. If it involves measuring, though, I recuse myself.

[I actually have quite a few interior shots on the blog, but they are even more sporadic than my other ones, ha. I got/get a bit burnt out on the house stuff!]

Beautiful home and decompression zone! I can't live without light streaming in through big windows. Love the natural wood and clean modern touch, GP, mixed with the retro rustic vibe. And the baby blue eggshell shade is very calming, Vix. Wonderful choice.

Vix, I love your house!

I have a lot of color in my house and my wardrobe is similar. Here are a couple of outfits that really echo the rooms in which they were photographed!

1. Green cardi to match the walls, brown tee to match the frame on the mirror, floral border on the skirt to match the floral border on the rug, and white accents!

2. Turquoise gray and white outfit that, like MATCHES the colors in the Woman Cave!

3. And a darker gray outfit that matches the Woman Cave walls.

Oh, Vicki needs to chime in here. Her house is absolutely stunning, and when we were in her living room and she asked, "What colors look good on me" I just looked around and said, "Every single color in this room!" Her designer is a genius.

Our first house was 100 years old and we did the restoration ourselves. I had a pastel floral chintz loveseat in our MBR with matching curtains. I had a pair or Victoria Secret PJs with a very similar pattern and hubby used to joke that if I was on the couch, he'd never be able to find me!

I succumbed to earth tones when we moved to the desert southwest, but I could never wear those colors. I'd like to move in the direction of Vicki's and MaryK's woman cave color scheme. Lovely!

Thanks! I enjoy a lot of the process, aside from the money, the negotiating with Mr Vix so we get things we both like, and the timelines.

Re the photo -- one of my best, for sure...covered in grime and turned yellow by a dangling bulb, ha! But the cleaner versions of the outfits shown are pretty much what I used to wear to run errands...hence my old friend's (dollar-free) WNTWish intervention....

ETA The reason I look so happy in that photo is that after years of waiting I finally got to take down the tile I hated...it was a GREAT birthday weekend!

Vix, madly coveting your DIY prowess! And can I just add I adore with your kitchen tiles? Went and looked at your blog, and loved those blue-green and sparkly outfits that go so well with it You look gorgeous, so does your home.

Your textiles are a really great counterpoint to the spare/modern lines elsewhere. The bedding made from your mother's sari is gorgeous.

[I have to say my aging back appreciates the stunning bed more than the simple mats you all slept on for so long after moving in!]

"Work-in-progress" sounds familiar, ha! Feel free to share more as you like...as a nosy person I am always happy to see what others are adding/changing to their space -- or why they *aren't* adding changing things.

ps Thanks for the tile love; I had debated white subways, but my heart wasn't in it. After 7+ years the sparkly blue-green still makes me happy whenever I see it!
