Small Midwest city: more than I expected of black athletic pants, either tights or yoga/flared with athletic tops and zip jackets on the younger ladies; athletic shoes in black and colors; skinnies with tall boots and big cardigans on every age.
The department stores are showing nothing other than the usual, with a slight tendency towards longer, looser tops and sweaters with uneven hems, longer in back or swingy shapes, wider open necklines (what do you wear under those? Crew neck tees or turtlenecks don't seem to work well so I have been trying button up shirts.)
Chicago: black puffers, black slim pants or leggings, cream or gray mega-mufflers and loose beanie hats. While visiting the city I felt like a sore thumb in my dark blue parka, blue cross body bag, and red/blue fair-isle patterned hat. I didn't see much of what was under the outer wear - I suspect more neutral knit wear.
For shopping, I did wear black slim pants, black short boots, black knit top and cobalt merino pullover sweater, hopefully JTE (just trendy enough), one day; and jeans, gray chambray button up shirt, black with yellow accent stripes merino pullover sweater, black short boots the next day.
