What's in your bag?

So I just saw this beautiful outfit in a blog, and the girl was wearing daytime clothes (for a sweet walk around town) and a gorgeous red clutch. It was sort of big, but still a clutch, which to me is small. I see all these girls wearing cute clutches and wonder what they have in them. Maybe it's me that needs a lot of space for her things! So, answering to men's most asked question, I thought we could open a thread and talk about what we have in our bags. I'll start:

Wallet
Ipod
Mobile Phone
Keys (with the big key holder lol)
Kleenexs (like three packets?)
At least one pen
Umbrella (quite often, even if it's not going to rain)
Book (ALWAYS)
Tampons and stuff for 'that time of the month', only I have it all-year-round, an habit my friends are really happy with.
Bottle of water
Maybe some cereal bar, sometimes

This is what I have in my SMALL bags. When the bag is bigger... well, you can sort of imagine how far I go!!

I usually carry a tiny wallet/clutch. Right now it contains:

-Necessary cards (DL, bank cards, etc)
-Keys
-Lip balm
-iPhone

I travel light!

All this fits into a large makeup bag which facilitates my frequent bag switcheroos. I still think it's bigger than a clutch, though, as it has more depth. And I just think clutches are too impractical for me; I need a shoulder strap, or I will lose my bag!

I try to lighten up, however, it is a work in progress.

Sometimes just keys and a wallet at other times nappies, snacks for the girls, wipes, brolly plus childrens toys. I either use a small handbag or a small suitcase

Wow, so jealous (and amazed!) by all you ladies who can fit all their stuff into tiny little bags! I have:

keys
wallet
phone
teeny tiny ipod shuffle+it's charger in a little pouch
sunglasses in case (they are giant and take up a lot of room!)
iPad
kleenex
lunch bag (this is actually the kicker - it takes up way more room than it seems)

and sometimes:
umbrella
book (although I have taken to reading on the ipad on my commute so not so much any more)
water bottle in varying degrees of fullness (this gets ditched if the bag is too heavy/big)
light cardigan
gloves and hat (in winter)
random small things (pen, hair elastic, lip balm, etc)

Sheesh. Now that I've typed it all out, I think I might need a sherpa.
Granted, on weekends and shorter, non-work outings, I don't have all of this. But still...

This is what was in my bag on 14 December 2010. There are 2 more prescription drugs in there now it is hay fever season. And compeed for blisters. And my keys. In the picture:
Library, museum and other cards,
ancient mobile phone,
purse with paper money, coins and 2 money cards and one company card of the grocery store,
a couple of receipts,
cloths for cleaning glasses
nail file,
pens
lip balm
small dynamo light
Moleskin diary
medication
small paper not block
elastic hair bands for DD

I'm visual like Heleen. :0
Here's what's in my Fossil Sutter crossbody:
the wallet and phone both go in the front pockets, the thin/flat stuff goes in the back pocket, the blood glucose meter in the inside pocket, and the clear makeup bag, brush, and lotion in the main compartment, along with the sunglasses.

I love to see what others have in their bag so I thought I would treat you all to a picture of mine. Glad you are returning the favour! May many more follow.
On days when I need more stuff I use the red bag as a bag-in-bag in a larger bag. Either a large handbag or a day rucksack, depending on the occasion. That bag/rucksack holds a 500 ml/14 oz water bottle, sunglasses, and anything I add on the day (like my digital photo camera and lunch).

I carry a messenger bag to and from school. Every where else usually just requires my cell phone; my car keys; and my billfold, so I just carry those in my pockets.

In it lies:
Textbooks
1 Large sized Moleskine for class notes.
1 Large carry bag full of highlighters for highlighting and colored markers for marking.
2 Small carry bag full of inkpens and pencils and erasers.
1 Laptop.
1 Charger for the laptop.
1 Billfold.
1 Case full of medicines.
1 Day Runner.
2 Water bottles.
3 Sanitary napkins.
1 First Aid kit, which has more sanitary napkins in it, go figure.

It's cause smaller bags are in, in, in right now! I've been trying to do with less and have a couple that i've been rockin'.

So yeah, it really varies on the day. Yesterday i put a smaller purse in a bigger purse because i needed the bigger one for work but was going out immediately after and wanted to use the smaller one after work...

I'm on Team Kitchen Sink, too. Every time I try to streamline I wind up cranky that I don't have one of my things.

Sometimes for an evening out, I'll do just a clutch with id, money, phone, and lipstick, but my everyday list is:

Makeup bag with brush, chapstick, lotion, tampons, etc.

small crocheted makeup bag with: travel size Lubriderm, two lipglosses (one pinky-plum, one reddish-brown), ibuprofin, tiny tin of Altoids, small purple Swiss army classic knife-the one with the tiny scissors, tweezers and toothpick, Cover Girl powder compact, small magnifying mirror, tiny pack of German-made tissues, sugar-free gum.

lol Airin, yes, and just this weekend I added in a digital camera, random jewelry, and a fortune cookie to top it off.
You know the saying; a place for everything and everything in it's place. I'm obsessed with 'stuffability' when it comes to purses. Pockets, compartments and more pockets.

3 months ago, the list would have been sooooo long !! Lately I have been switching bags ( I used to stick to two a year ) and my kids are older, so I don't worry as much about being "prepared".

In the summer with the kids, I keep a canvas bag stocked in the car with hats, snacks and drinks, mosquito repellant, large tube of sunscreen.

I could probably get away with a large clutch. He's the list of what's in my handbag right at this moment (I dumped it out):

keys
wallet
mobile phone
two lipsticks
one lip liner
one tinted lip gloss
concealer
miscellaneous crumpled-up receipts
small tube of vaseline
small tube of sunblock
floss
loose change, fallen to the bottom
nine bobby pins, also fallen to the bottom
a pen that in all likelihood does not work

As you can probably surmise, I do not switch my belongings from one handbag to the other very often. This is my one giant style flaw: I have a dearth of bags. I like them, in theory; I just always seem to spend my money on other things.

ETA: also, my bag always contains a tiny swiss army knife with tweezers and mini scissors, but since it's attached to my keys, I don't think of it as something that's part of my handbag. But the keys tend to be in the handbag, and I since use those tweezers ALL THE TIME to pull out these ridiculous white hairs that sprout from my chin and seem to grow to an inch long overnight, I thought I'd include them. The car mirror is the best place to see the chin hairs.
