What I Wore Today

Some of us having been batting around the idea of posting pictures of outfits that we wear from day to day. You wouldn't have to post what you wear every single day, but if there is something you are particularly proud of, or want feedback on, or you think would give others on the forum ideas for putting together their own wardrobe, feel free to post it here! :)

This is the thread that inspired the idea.

Great idea - I love seeing real people in their real outfits. I'll definitely join in.

I post my looks over on fabsugar.com - it's easy to create your own personal Lookbook.

... You'll see my looks all seem to revolve around "what to wear with jeans." That's because at age 42, I'm now a full-time telecommuter so I've had to learn how to incorporate jeans into my lifestyle for the first time. Prior to this year, I rarely wore jeans. I have a closet full of dress slacks and skirts and dresses - i just haven't dragged them out recently! But as the weather gets warmer, you'll see me more in skirts.

If you join that site to set up your own lookbook, please add me as a friend so I'll be automatically notified when you post a new look!

Shiny! You are so cute! I love your jeans in "Floral Trend" and you said they are Citizens. Do you have them hemmed up a lot? I'm short and I need a 31" inseam to wear with heels. I haven't tried Citizens because I just thought their inseam was hopelessly long for me. How have you dealt with this?

Posted 1 year ago

Shiny, you are adorable! I like pretty much all the outfits, but especially the skirt one and the Sunday brunch one. I have seen that shirt at H&M, loved the pattern and got disappointed and how shapeless it looked on ( I need waist definition). Never occurred to me to wear cardi over , but it looks great. I might get it after all, probably in the pink/burgundy color combo. Thanks for the inspiration!

I love all those outfits Shiny, and I'm also a fan of that H&M top. I might have to hunt it down and try it on.

Shiny, I like how you layer everything. I have recently discovered the slimming effect of laying a cropped cardi over alot of my tops. Would you say that cardigan layers are your signature style? You look very classy and sophisticated in every photo.

Posted 1 year ago

You look fab Shiny! Smart casual style to perfection. Your layering skills are sharp. Bravo! You are an example to ALL women.

Posted 1 year ago

Wow You gals are fast!

Shiny I love your outfits, all of them. Are you a hourglass? I do similar layers but most of my camisoles are solids, I see that a colorful patterned one could work very well. That will be on my shopping list...

Ana - yes, those are Citizens. I think they are called Amber? I could have that wrong. I had these hemmed for flats (although you'll see I cheat and do wear them with low heels too - I think they look alright though). I'm only 5'0" so I think you'll be just fine with them!!! The other pair - the ones with more of a flare at the bottom - are Huttons. Both pairs have the most amazing denim - they feel soooo good on your skin. I am totally sold on paying more for premium denim now.

Tanya - that H&M tunic is actually HUGE on me. I swim in it. I would not have bought it, if it wasn't for the fact I was wearing that blue cardigan when I was shopping, and the two looked so cute together! But you won't see me wearing it without a jacket or a cardi to cinch it in. Otherwise, H&M is where I get my fix for ultra-trendy stuff. Or where I can inexpensively try out a style I'm not sure about, before investing more $.

Nicole - I got the idea to layer from this site! Now I can't find the link. Maybe Angie can help. It was a blog entry about smart casual "uniform" for Fridays... the prescription was 1) dark wash jeans 2) an interesting top 3) a layering piece - either a structured jacket or a cardigan. Reading that advice was an "ah-hah!" moment for me. Prior to that, my uniform was dress slacks with a V-neck sweater, or khakis with a tee shirt. Boring!!! This is so much more fun. ;-)

Angie - Thank you!!! I'm so flattered... but you get the credit, since I learned this from you (read above).

Julia - Yes, I think I'm an hourglass. I'm not sure, really. I'm 33-25-33. My shoulders are just an inch wider than my hips, though often I think they look a lot wider than that, and I look top-heavy. My mid-section is definetly my trouble zone. The smallest part of my waist is rather high up, just under my rib cage, where you see I'm apt to button the cardigan or jacket.

I just posted my looks from this weekend. Angie, if you have a chance to check them out, I am curious about what you think of the jacket? I lost some weight since I bought this jacket, and I'm afraid it may be too big on me now. It still fits fine in the shoulders, but I don't know... something doesn't seem quite right about the way it hangs these days.

And I'm humbled, Shiny. Thank you for your faultless application. But it's you, in your clothes that you chose rocking your style! I cannot begin to comment on this “new look” vs khakis and a t-shirt. Chalk and cheese. Well done. And you are absolutely hour glassy. Nothing else.

I try to encourage people to upscale their jeans if they can. Rather have 2 pairs of fabulous jeans , than 6 pairs that are okay. But not everybody can splurge on $180 jeans, but there are ways of getting them cheaper if you persevere.

Hmm…I can’t find the looks that you posted this weekend. Where do I find them? I’d love to see the jacket that you are dubious about.

My lookbook is here - there are three new photos; the first photo shows the jacket in question:

http://teamsugar.com/user/petite42/looks

It fits okay in the shoulders and it's still comfortable when I button it (not too tight, not too loose). I'm just not sure what is off to me about it - is it the length? Is it too big and needs some darts? Or is it the three buttons (one button jackets do seem to work better but are hard to find). I have a few similarly cut jackets (in a different fabrics) that seem to fit better and look more slimming.

Shiny I feel that either the cami is too long or the jacket shouldn't be all buttoned up. How about unbutton the jacket and put a belt around the cami but under the jacket? If the jacket is the right size it should look fine unbuttoned as well. I hope this helps.

Shiny, I think the jacket in question is more boxy than the other jackets and cardis in your lineup. Maybe it could be taken in at the waist?

Posted 1 year ago

I agree with Nicole that it's a bit boxier than other ones you have been wearing.

Here's my first ever attempt of posting a picture of my outfit, sorry for the bad quality/caption, I am just learning my way:

This is what I wore tonight for a very casual dinner at friend's place: black suede wedge mary janes by Aerosoles, NYD wash booutcut jeans by 7FAMK, baby blue cashmere Uniqlo sweater layered over cream Esprit tee, silvertone watch and H&M necklace.

I would welcome comments on the jeans fit and sweater length.

Re: jacket - I think it looks worse unbuttoned!

Tanya - I think your jeans fit perfectly and the sweater is exactly the right length. I would kill to have your figure.

Posted 1 year ago

Shiny, I just have to echo everyone else - you have such a great style and it works! Modern classic and feminine. Thanks for sharing your looks with us!

Tanya, I think your sweater and jeans look perfect!

Posted 1 year ago

Shiny, it's the boxy shoulders on the jacket that don't work. Everything else is great. Like it buttoned up.

Tanya, your jeans are a super fit, and your pullover is the perfect length!

Posted 1 year ago

Shiny, I love your style! I am working on smart casual myself.

Posted 1 year ago

Shiny, you look fantastic. It's obvious that you have a good eye for style.

Okay, I thought I would post what I wore today because I really like how the outfit turned out. I blacked out my face though because I'm just having one of those "no pictures of me look good" days. :)

I call this outfit, "Channeling Angie" because I got all the ideas for the colors from her. Here's the breakdown:

Denim: Express
Jacket: Boden (which you all helped me pick out)
Safari green wrap shirt: Leo & Sage
Red Tank: Express
Shoes: Aldo (this is the first time I've worn them even though I've had them for almost a year!)
Necklace/Earrings: Michael Michaud

That jacket is SUPERB on you Ana. I'm so glad you got it, it looks great. The shoes are adorable. Bravo!

Posted 1 year ago

I second Maya on the jacket comment. It is perfect. I so wish it comes in petite size because that is exactly what I'm looking for. Ana you rock in the outfit!

Posted 1 year ago

Nice Ana! I thought those shoes were ballet flats on your foot.

Posted 1 year ago

Well my dear Ana, YOU LOOK FAB! You have got your smart casual style down and I am tickled. I'm so glad that you went with the cream jacket and not the blue. Blondes look good in cream. Love everything about your outfit. The colours, the pieces and the layering. Well done! You have set a superbly stylish example. Thanks for sharing. I can’t wait to see more.

(That top from bluefly is brilliant. I have it in black and am thinking of duplicating the style and colour. It goes with virtually every bottom in my wardrobe).

Posted 1 year ago

Love it! Those shoes are adorable, and you will get so much use out of that jacket, which fits you perfectly.

How do the Boden clothes fit vertically (I'm also petite)?

Posted 1 year ago

Shiny last time I checked, this jacket is a little bit over 24'' long. Most of my jackets are 22'' or less so I know that it would be too long for me. I'm also 5' tall so I thought this might help you to decide.

Posted 1 year ago

As I recall, Ana is also petite and it seems to fit her like a glove.

In my experience (I'm 5'2), their tops are okay but their dresses and skirts are very long, and some of them would be a pain to hem if they could be hemmed at all (they're a fan of appliques and bubble hems and such).

Lots of 5ft lovely lasses on this forum. I feel like a towering inferno at 5ft 6.
